Meh! Played it on PS3 and it's one of those grindy JRPGs with no real decent story or progression. Also it's filled with the kind of secrets you will never obtain without a guide which takes away a lot of the pleasure for me.
Played this on ps3 and the fights were boring shit with endless grinding. The story on the other hand is something I am a bit interested in since I didn't get very far.
So will buy this on pc and cheat the hell out of it.
A few years back I was looking forward to this on the PS3, but then I realised how much I hate "Tactics" style RPGs :\ This looks the very epitome of grindy Tactics RPG and I'm just... "meh.." now. The storyline and the "jDating > offspring inherits combat traits from parents" thing looks interesting as all hell, but that combat...
Well that's because Valkria Chronicles *is* awesome It's also the only "Tactics" RPG that I can stomach, mostly because it doesn't feel like FFT/FOT/etc, it felt unique and engaging.
Problem with this game is that isn't really tactical. All battlefields look the same, you have no height/tile advantages and all the tactics come down to is positioning your units so that they can dish out combo attacks and thats it.
Calling it tactical combat is sadly quite a stretch for this game
Looks okay, I think this might be for me, I do like dem tactics.
Same here. Grinding on my PSP Valkyria Chronicles 2 to death. Awesome series in my stupid opinion.
I love stuff like that too, final fantasy tactics, disgaea, valkyria chronicles, but this game's combat system was just no fun when I tried it on PS3.
Couldn't take it for more than an hour or two.
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.

All of their games are like this, with completely abysmal gameplay. I have absolutely no idea how the company survives.
Isn't this the original also? It's flat-out bad. Calling it tactical is quite the joke.
I've tried playing their games over the years and they just churn out trash after trash with little regard for intelligent game design.
In the past year or so they've actually improved ever-slightly, but they've been at this more than a decade and still can't make a tactical game worth any salt, they're always loaded with redundant and unnecessarily grindy/boring systems.

Bad move to bring the older one over, I can't imagine it will fare well. The later ones were a little less barf.
i really hope they start releasing great jrpgs on steam like persona 4 golden (which really needs a non-handheld release), instead of this ecchi dating sim rpg pile of shit.
couldn't get into this one on the ps3 either. I agree Idea Factory is probably my least favourite company when it comes to the grindy rpg releases. Although I did enjoy Blazing Souls for it's dialogue which I found quite amusing as the lead character was a bit of a jerk/asshole.
If games from Tri-Ace, Atlus, Nippon Ichi , Level 5 or Intelligent Systems ever make it to a pc port i'd be happy.
Now available for pre-order at 20% off and 7 free DLC packs that will also be available separately at launch.
Also having seen a playthrough of Phantasy Star IV yesterday and reading up on the game via Wiki and other sources this sounds nearly identical to Phantasy Star III
(Albeit a bit more fleshed out.)

The "Soul Breed" system
Agarest takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls.
Your choice of marriage partner is restricted to girls who've grown fond of you over a particular generation. Your options are determined by your choices during conversations at certain points of the story.
The girl you choose as your wife - and the strength of their relationship with you - will determine the abilities of the main character in the next generation of the story. You'll have to experience multiple play throughs to see all of the character possibilities open to you! What heroes might you create?
The game runs at ~17 FPS during the action sequences and at ~28 FPS during most cutscenes.
Other than that it's not too bad, VO's are in Japanese and there's a LOT of DLC content but you can choose to disable that for what looks like in-game cash rewards instead.
Reminds me of "Brave Soul" or "Utawarerumono" but probably without the sex scenes.
(Maybe not quite as epic in story either.)
I need to try without Radeon Pro (Fraps instead or something.) in case that is interfering but yeah it's a bit problematic, unsure what could be causing that otherwise, I mean it's a 2D sprite game with simple 3D backgrounds and it's not like it's using DirectDraw, I hope.
(Windows DX10+ Direct2D acceleration would be neat though...)
Main menu, classic world map background.
Here you select which DLC to enable, there was a few already due to pre-purchase rewards.
But there's a lot more DLC than just those.
Let's try easy for now just to see how the game is.
Long list of active DLC rolling by.
Intro with animated movie.
Gods, always these gods causing problems.
Here be depiction of pivotal history elements.
End of the introduction.
Little demo showing combat and start of the actual game.
You can't do anything so you get your ass kicked.
I'm dead, kinda.
Oh wait, it was a dream, of course.
What the fuck are doing wearing pink battle armor.
Battle against underpowered trash mobs commencing.
The start of what is probably the shittiest battle tactics ever.
"Battle sounds"
This isn't really difficult at all, probably due to the difficulty choice earlier.
Nearly done.
All dead.
A rating, you played like Ass.
Click the right button or you won't get to save the game, kinda like a QTE.
Damsel in distress.
Hero rescuing said damsel.
(Reward scene not depicted due to age ratings.)
Obligatory bad-guy talk.
Hostile actions commencing.
But first we compare the size of our weapons.
Just shut up and prepare yourself for the after battle reward you're going to owe me.
(Actually I believe this might be the first of the girls you meet and decide your descendants from.)
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
