i updated steam yesterday, and now when i try to launch HL2, CSS, HL1S, nothing happens.. the provision window closes, and thats it, but hl2.exe is still running in the background
any ideas?

provision rls doesnt need steam... you prolly did something wrong.
never install the game into the steam dir.

What update did you use? There are both Vengeance and Emporio updates.
If you updated Steam itself then you must have installed the collectors edition it into the Steam. The collectors release doesn't need Steam and there are seperate .bat files to launch multiplayer. You also need to use the scene patches if you want to update it.

k i got it to work, i had to reinstall HL2 into a seperate directory... i played CS:Source fine after that, but not today... when I try to join a game, it says [TEMP] you need to update... blah blah
which fix do i use to get this to work? yesterday it worked fine, and today it doesnt? there hasnt been a patch released between this time
(worked dec 15th, not 16th)
any ideas?

yes, read the nfo, it tells you exactly how to setup steam
gotta edit the cfg file and enter your steam name, HL2 directory, and steam password.

ive got another problem.
when trying to play either of the games i first get a DOS-box saing steamengine starting. then it says steam engine runnig, but at the same time i get an error message saying mountappfilesystem()failed. mountappfilesystem failed with error 101: not logged in
i did change my steamapp.cfg file and ive followed the nfo-file

I got it to work now..but how do i get the console in CS:Source i only get the console in Hl2...It doesnt work to change to dev console mode in options...=(

Did u install steam and HL2 in completely different directories like you're supposed to? Probably not eh?
Steam = c:\program files\valve\steam
HL2 = c:\program files\HL2\
do that and you're fine
make sure you uninstall HL2, then reinstall

Can anybody post a files list of the Provision DVD. I got it off torrent and i think some of the cab file names have changed. Can somebody put all the names of the cab files in the root + the size so i can correct this ??
