Darkest Dungeon is a hard-core RPG about the stresses of dungeon crawling. You will lead a band of four heroes on a perilous side-scrolling descent, dealing with a prodigious number of threats to their bodily health, and worse, a relentless assault on their mental fortitude! Five hundred feet below the earth you will not only fight unimaginable foes, but famine, disease, and the stress of the ever-encroaching dark. Darkest Dungeon focuses on the humanity and psychological vulnerability of the heroes and asks: What emotional toll does a life of adventure take?
Darkest Dungeon is not a game where every hero wins the day with shiny armor and a smile. It is a game about hard trade-offs, nearly certain demise, and heroic acts. Prepare to experience an RPG like nothing you have played before.
There's a single small screenshot in their blog section which I think looks pretty good, but I'm looking forward to the Kickstarter to get a better glimpse of what they have to far.
I think the idea of party members having their own flaws and trying to balance their strengths and weaknesses could be pretty interesting.
The features certainly sound nice, it's basically a hardcore turn-based RPG with stress levels for party members to handle wisely. This could add a layer of depth if implemented correctly

I'm interested to see how "hardcore" a side-scrolling RPG can be.
It's the newest catch phrase these days. They think that if they add permadeath or any sort of randomness that suddenly their game is roguelike. In reality they're just watering down what it means to be a roguelike game and genericizing the term

fuckers.
Dito. They think every "dungeon crawler" qualifies for a roaguelike.
Roguelikes are usually MUCH more complex than The Blinding Of iShaq (tho that was fun).
Plus, I bet you most people who like "recent roguelikes" A) probably never played nethack on a 80x25 black & white terminal before and B) wouldn't even consider Diablo 1 was technically a roguelike (a very analog, realtime one, with a GUI).
How was D1 a roguelike? I thought that one of the key features of roguelikes is permadeath, and don't recall that being part of D1... perhaps D2 with hardcore mode would qualify tho.
On the topic of roguelikes though, I can recommend ToME to anyone who is interested; it is an excellent roguelike with the right "roguelike feel" and relatively deep mechanics.
Looks okay, more than okay actually, but I foresee the mechanics getting real old, real quick, when your eleventieth character has screamed like a little girl and ran off, or the next "omglol, soerandomlol" RNG causes one of your team members to freak out, stab you all in the back, then run off.. making you start over from the beginning because "roguelikelol" :\
I've had enough of the indie renaissance. It isn't fun any more. Please, if only these small indie companies could pool together and make good games instead of shooting off in all directions with these small 3 man teams and 50 buck budgets, that'd be nice.
Yeah.. I guess my fears were accurate. Even the first 5 minutes of gameplay shows your party getting stung with multiple character "defects" and I can imagine that this will get real bad as you progress. Player hadn't even progressed to a second room and had already spent limited items and gained two "negative" aspects. Goddamn it... game looks bloody awesome too
Yup. Apparently he got a paper cut and that permanently diminished his ability to fight.. not that he was much of a fighter anyhow, considering DODGE is the new MISS. Soe challenge.
Early Access keys for Kickstarter and Humble Bundle Backers will be sent out tomorrow morning according to a dev. post on Steam - 3 days before it's officially purchasable by everyone else.

Hi - we'll be sending out an email with instructions on how to claim your keys no later than 10am PST tomorrow.
I'm really excited about this one - enough so that I'm willing to break my Early Access boycott. I do hope that some benevolent backers take it upon themselves to up it early though!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
