I know that feel Dingo
"Thankfully" I use the monitor only for entertaining tasks these days (gaming/movies/browsing), doing serious work with a subpar TN is excruciating indeed
It's an LG 47LE5300. No smart tv, no internet whatever, but I don't need that stuff as it is directly hooked up to my PC and in the worst case I can just put in some usb stick or hdd and watch my x264 directly
Apparently there are some LE5300 which come with non-ips panels, but they have a different serial number and are easy to spot, this one with IPS has a very nice picture and low latency
And I just checked, it isn't sold anymore... I got it for ~840, which was a very good price 2 years ago
Most people have TN displays anyway or they are not calibrated. The problem would be if you had to print it. The god of cluster fuck is ever vigilant than.
Having to do layout design on a crappy TN panel monitor -.-"
As I'm scrolling the colors change FFS! I'm never really sure what the color I picked looked like!
Aaaa! And I have no money to buy a decent IPS panel :\ I need to get a job asap...
I notice how shitty the colours are on jobs from years ago when I open them on my new monitors
What's scary is how most people end up viewing it any way. You can labor over colours for hours, but at the end of the day it's likely to be viewed on a phone or some shitty TN panel.
Yeah, but I'm doing layout design (in InDesign), so I need the most accurate color reproduction as possible :\

i have a Acer X221W right now (and for like 4+ years). Now that's abysmal. How i'm able to see and kill people in BF is a true testament to my skill ^^. Seriously, it's almost impossible to distinct anything on it. I usually just aim for the orange triangles ^^.
Can't wait for my new screen in 10 days
(add to that a crappy 10$ wireless logitech keyboard lol. hich i'll replace with a brand new G510 as well in 10 days hihi).
There are cheap IPS monitors. Acer made one, I had it but it broke down and now I'm stuck with TN until the Acer IPS stock is, well, restocked. Cost ~160 euros? I think. Acer h236hl family. I am not aware of a bigger size, but I was very content with it, it was cheap and great, I can't wait to get it again.

Ok very noob question incoming, how do I correctly calibrate mine?
I think I used this site back then http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ , but the results were so bad that I said fuck it, I'll just live in my own distorted world where you need to keep your head always still to see what's going on xD

I just hope you are not paying twice.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The only good way to calibrate a display is with something like this:
I used that lagom page on my previous Samsung display but hell if I know if it was properly calibrated. You have to take your own color perception and external light source into account.
You can always use some predefined color profiles for windows from here for example:

Nah. Friend of mine lended the monitor in my signature until my model is restocked. Gonna take forever, but the shop I got it from has been very understanding and will not charge me a penny more. But, again, gonna take a while. I also got some store credit because of my patience, azerty is really awesome.
This is the Acer IPS in question.

But our photo department at work used one and they said it messed up their color settings, thou the dept. is far from professional imho.
I see, thanks for the infos. I thought it was something that I could do "easily" without needing any additional tools. I'll just tolerate my ugly panel until I'll be a rich kurwa
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
