last night we decided to watch ender's game. me and my wife both read the books in ender universe so we dint had to much expectation from the movie. boy, we were so wrong.
the movie ended being even more shitier that our worst expectation.
i can understand the hollywood crap, but why radically change ender ? for me it looked like a joke of character. no deep. no showing of his inovation, leadership skills, uncommon approach to helpless situations.
harrison ford. i presume he was bored. so much bad acting.
sister/brother relations not even touched in the movie. (and i can agree with that, it could only confuse people, but it would have been interesting for facebook audience).
mind game superficially touched and explained.
team battles not even superficially touched and explained. really ? that is kinda the main plot in the book for battle academy, but is so shallow and shit in the movie. is the main plot, because it show us how his strategy developed and worked.
why the fuck they changed the name from molecular disruption to molecular displacement ? just for the art of beign dumb ? and in the books (when they describe it better, not in ender's game if i remmeber right) is a freaking missile, not beams of light. a missile which use his mass and internal 2 beams to generate the critical starting reaction.
where is the formics message ? the one that they dint intend to start another invasion ? is one of the main things to learn in the damn book.
space battles. i had the impression that i'm looking at some harry potter in space without a wand. no strategy feeling at all. no emotional involvement because shitloads of of people died. they even prevented that using "drones" words, which basically means ai ships. in the movie we dont even know that real people were involved directly in the fights and how they were trusting ender until and after death.
afaik ender dint make any mistake, one of his parteners did because was to tired. where are those dead tired childs because of countless "simulations " ? for sure, not in the movie. they looked like childrens on steroids happy with their latest nintendo.
they invade us for water ? there is no reasons in the book, only explanation about how colonization works, they dint need any reason for invading/terraforming, so in the movie they could have come with a better answer. but no, they need water.

so many screw up that there is no point to list them. almost all the movie is a screw up and a mess.
but still is over 5 in imdb, so probably some people have found some values in this crap.

The movie seemed like a very fast-forward version of the book, which made it suffer greatly. Too many things to touch in such a short time, so, as you've said, most of the things barely scraped the surface

I thought Ender's Game was passable - and I read the book for the first time about a year ago. Can't say I was too impressed with the novel, but I liked the first half a lot.

As for the movie, it was too short and had some significant mistakes, but overall it more or less fit what I had imagined.

I thought the "drill sergeant" and Kingsley were both severely miscast, but thankfully they didn't have major roles.

If it had been 30-45 minutes longer with more detail and patience, it might well have been a pretty good film, actually.
