Following in the footsteps of previous Dead Rising installments, players control new protagonist Nick Ramos in third person. They will start by searching for supplies and weapons in order to fight many undead and complete missions. Dead Rising 3 is set in a vast, open world environment which is much larger than the worlds of Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 combined. According to developers, the game can render three times as many zombies on-screen at once as its predecessor. Players will also be allowed to save their progress anywhere, as opposed to limiting saves to toilets. The game will include a "Nightmare Mode" for those who would prefer the traditional time limit and save options. The game will not have load times.
Dead Rising 3 expands upon the crafting system introduced in Dead Rising 2. Players retain the ability to create "combo weapons", but without the need for a workbench, allowing them to craft weapons on the fly.Dead Rising 3 also allows players to create "combo vehicles", such as combining a motorcycle and steamroller to form a "RollerHawg". Each combo vehicle includes two seats and a secondary blue attack to support cooperative gameplay. According to Capcom Vancouver, driving vehicles will be "a critical part of exploration" as players navigate the city of Los Perdidos. Player 1 will be able to discover and unlock blueprints for new combo weapons and vehicles.
Dead Rising 3 will utilize both the Kinect and Xbox SmartGlass. The optional Kinect feature gives zombies a certain level of situational awareness. Loud noises from the player could potentially trigger a rush of zombies; however, the player can also use the ability to shout at zombies through the Kinect in order to distract them. According to Executive Producer Josh Bridge, the microphone sensitivity will be tuned to "a threshold that makes sense," so that attracting zombies will feel like an intentional decision. The Xbox SmartGlass feature, which is also optional, can be used to locate specific items, find abandoned storefronts, and set waypoints for mission objectives. It also provides players with exclusive missions that unlock apps within the SmartGlass, giving them the ability to call in airstrikes, drone support, or area-wide flares for fending off or drawing the attention of the undead. Like previous games there is a Mega-Man themed costume earnable by receiving the S-ending, with the Mega Buster requiring finishing the game in nightmare mode.
This is a fantastic game. No, it's not the greatest thing ever, but I've easily played it the most out of the launch games, and beat it three times and still ready for more. The amount of craziness in this game is awesome. I enjoyed the other DR's, but they weren't anything special, but this one--especially with the amount of zombies in the world at any given time, just seems so much better. Highly recommended. And yeah, all of the crazy combos and running around dressed like MegaMan X is pretty sweet, too.

Good lord.. got this for Christmas and wasn't really excited too much to play but then after reading these replies I tossed it in the ol' XboxOne and the damn thing demanded a 5GB patch before I could play...
I don't really get the popularity of this franchise. I mean, I had tried the first game and never, for the life of me, figure out what the fuck was I doing, apart from mindlessly slaughtering horde after horde of Zombie onslaught. Tried the second game briefly and it was same shit all over again. What do you guys seriously like about it?

Same here, I played the original Dead Rising as one of the first games on the Xbox360 and was really disappointed. Dead Rising 3 looks like the same mindless gameplay with new weapons and better graphics (and worse framerates )

people have different tastes and like different things. is this concept too hard to understand for you?

Err...did you even look at my question? I genuinely wanted to know why people like this franchise, rather than your generic "people have different tastes...so deal with it" reply. Capiche?
I didn't appreciate the first 2 very much either which is why I wasn't too excited to play this one, I got it because there isn't much else out at the moment... ;p
But I have to say, the amount of zombies on the screen at pretty much all times so far is pretty fucking awesome to behold.
Question: How the hell do I get people to follow me that I'm trying to rescue? I could not get that bastard to move no matter what, I even murdered like 90842084239 zombies around him and had a car, but he just kept standing there going "UP HERE! HELP!" etc.
But while the game may force users to download the 13GB update, it may not actually take up all that much space once downloaded. According to one Reddit user, the update only takes up an additional 1.6GB of space once fully installed.
Sounds like the update is the whole game plus an extra 1.6gb lol.
Still don't have the game but managed to download a playable demo on XBL. It's a 20 minute timed demo and I can only play it twice?!?
Anyways I played it twice and it was a lot of fun. The framerate was pretty solid and the amount of onscreen zombies was impressive! At one point I was literally knee deep in the dead! Dead zombies that is! The only thing that bothered me was how not colourful and washed out everything looked! I'm going to get the game for sure but I'd like to think the retail release doesn't look like the demo I played.
Ive played Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 on Xbox 360 but is the story mode similar in Dead Rising 3 where you are timed to do everything?
May the NFOrce be with you always.

I finally traded my PS3 and games in and got some new Xbox One games
I tried to find a copy of Dead Rising 3 either pre-owned or brand new but everywhere was out of stock. I eventually caved in and bought it on XBL which cost me an uncomfortable £40 although it did include plenty of DLC. I have to say I dont regret it at all! Im having so much fun with this game!
