They should do this to Win7 at this point imho. There aren't that many updates in current 8.1 to warrant a cummulative update. Win7 on the other hand with its ~130 updates...

Nope, not yet Wink

A power button on start screen though, plus it boots to desktop as default now. Memory footprint reduced greatly, right click menus on start screen, can pin metro apps to taskbar (not that I'll have the need for that lol).

Yup, I would say so. Memory management vastly improved. It also alerts you when your glass is nearly empty now (whisky only - and in beta ATM), plus you get a shiny new power button on start screen Razz Very Happy

Any word on when will they come out officially?

Also does it work well with StartIsBack, or should I wait for SIB update after it comes out?

April, probably the usual patch Tuesday (Second week of the month.) but I don't know for sure.

I believe there's a newer beta set now but I am not sure if it's available for download, also I do not know how upgrading from these leaked beta releases is handled but if the update can be uninstalled there shouldn't be any problems. Smile
(From the forum discussions on MyDigitalLife it seems this upgrade pack pretty much renders all previous updates obsolete - the current beta release does not however - since they're either included or superseded by newer components, minus stuff like .NET framework hotfixes and other "extras".)

I just hope this update won't take 2 hours to install like the 8.1 did... Evil or Very Mad

I just had to install this damn Windows 8 for my Saitek X52pro to work.
As win7 USB 3.0 drivers are (deliberately?) messed up so I wasn't able to install my HOTAS, the whole system hanged as soon as I plugged it in.
And a real hang, hard reboot needed... Rolling Eyes

So here I am, forced to install this crappy Win8 Metro shit.

And why the fuck is the 8.1 update on the Windows Store and not from Windows update ? Neutral
And why it took 2 hours to install the update whereas it took less than 10 minutes to install the whole OS. ???
Some one at MS deserves to be shot...

Finally, why the hell do I need to log in with my live account ???
While thinking about it, I even didn't try to log offline, I get you simply can't, can you ?

This Windows 8 is a plain joke. Mad

Not to mention some drivers are still not up to date and working correctly.
I still have problems with my logitech G19s KB, H100i link software and even my X52 has its MFD text corrupted. (but it is working at least)
So I take even developers/manufacturer doesn't take so much effort on this crap.

... fuck shit damn bored with this ... really ...

You can create a offline account but it was changed a bit from the original Windows 8 procedure to make it a bit more hidden and thus try to coerce people into creating a Skydrive/Onedrive online account with Microsoft.

No idea how the store version updates as I simply downloaded the DVD and upgraded from that though as this isn't as large a update as going from 8 to 8.1 it shouldn't take as long to install albeit it'll probably involve a few reboots and stuff as it installs.

For USB I believe Windows 8 and 8.1 has native USB3 support (Has been updated a few times as well, as has their Bluetooth driver and SATA, mostly security fixes so it's not like they're broken or buggy just fixes exploits.) and includes drivers for it directly via Microsoft whereas for Windows Vista and W7 you need the drivers from your motherboard usually it's either Intel or AMD plus possibly ASMedia or others since the mobo itself has limited lanes or what the correct description was.
(IE for x79 Intel has 2x SATA6 and 4x USB3 I believe whereas to use my motherboard as a example ASMedia Sata6 and USB3 chips are added to extend this to 6x SATA6 and I think it was 8x USB3, of course later models like the z87 and upcoming will have better support.)

Thanks for the info.

Regarding the USB 3.0 driver issue, yes I had to install Intel's ones on my Asus FormulaVI Z87.
But they messed up proper USB2.0 support for my Saitek X52 somehow under Win7.

Anyway now that I can boot directly on my desktop, I feel already better Laughing
On the other hand Win8 have some nice improvements on things like file transfer, mutli monitor management (finally my second monitor do not turn black anymore when primary is fullscreen), love the new task manager as well.

More importantly Win8 seems to manage multithread better. All cores are gently used, even HT ones.

If they do something about the painful 8.1 "DLC" installation and make the "Touch/Metro" thingies actually optional, it may become be a nice OS for desktop computer finally.

Something far far wrong if 8.1 took 2 hours to install Shocked lol

There was a day, when installing Windows was a PITA, now its better to just have back-ups of your software and reinstall the whole damn OS, it seriously only takes about 8 minutes to get from blank HDD to working, and another hour (at most) restoring your crap/settings.

An hour and a half of one's day really Wink No point in trying to figure out problems any longer, just wipe and go Smile

That's why I really don't mind trying these updates, if it borks, so what? I'll be back to normal in no time Very Happy

It does indeed. I actually hate Windows 8 as a whole, but it's core system is so dammed better than Windows 7, much faster, and more optimized. Just a shame they bolted that shit desktop on top of it.

It wasn't meant to be released yet, it was a mistake that they shut down. It was meant for OEMs to update their 8.1 systems but somehow it ended up on WU until MS shut down the possibility to use the Update.
