I'm planing on picking up a new keyboard and mouse, I've been running on a cheapo M$ keyboard for a while now and a X8 mouse, its about time I upgraded to mechanical and figured I might as well get a new mouse while I was at it.
I "tried" the G602 in a shop recently and really loved how it felt in the hand, the button placement for the most part felt good and I was totally sold on buying one but I've seen looked at the newer G700 and can see that for a small amount more I can get what appear to be better features.. Does anyone have any thoughts on the two mice? Any other thoughts?
The keyboard I'm looking at is the G710 it is again another product I had "tried" in a shop and loved the size, feel and look. Anyone have any opinions on it, or any other recommendations?

I've owned the G710 since it was released and I have to say that I'm very satisfied with it.
There are some things you should keep in mind tho when buying it. It has no onboard memory so that means that you need logitech gemaing software to get the macro keys to work which is kind of stupid since it is quite expensive and should have a way of working macro keys without the software.
Other than that, I love the cherry browns (I also have a corsair K90 with cherry reds) and it's awesome for both gaming and just typing while the cherry reds were great for just gaming and kind of awkward for typing.

"Awkward for typing"
The Con about Mechanical KB's..i think. I tried once (without PC ) at a Mediamarkt in Spain and...felt weird..i think...
Sadly,it's actually the only Gaming KB from Logitech that has a Spanish keyboard (the Ñ key among others?) while the others, like G510 (owning one, but it's the spanish version) and G19 and other LCD keyboards, misses the Ñ key

Quite opposite for me. I have both g710+ and k90.. and I personally prefer to type on K90 more, since it feels more agile.
But this can be because I was used to my k90 when I got g710. I used to miss quite a lot with my reds when typing, but now it feels quite awkward whenever I try to type on browns. I guess its due to the feedback, feels that I need to press down more.
That being said, for first mechanical. Browns (g710+) is the way to go, since they are not as loud. Moreover they seem to feel better when playing fps, but worse when playing strategy than reds.

That might help a bit with the mechanical keyboard, switch types and such.
Had a g710+ or what they are called and it was great but it got "liquidated" in a accident, they're pretty sensitive so being a bit careless got that keyboard fried - sad but it happens, plus overall I'm fairly clumsy and that's a dangerous combination.
(Using a k95 now which I'm liking better but both are on a price premium and there might be better stuff available for less money, mechanical keyboards on average are fairly expensive.)
Had a g9x earlier but the scroll wheel died (Seems to be a somewhat common issues.) so I switched to a g700s (I do not know what the "s" does, some say it's just more DPI, using 3200 since I like it fast but the full 6400 is a bit much.) albeit I'm not very fond of wireless so I am using it in wired mode and as some reviews point out the cable (a micro-usb design I think.) is a bit stiff but I've not had any major issues.
Not really sure what company to go with and which mouse + keyboard is "optimal" if there even is something like that, earlier I was all Logitech and now I'm slowly switching over to Corsair instead although again both carry a price premium or how it's said so they are a bit over-expensive or well I don't know what the correct term is.
Oh and yeah it depends on what features you want, do you need led (with switchable brightess.) "G" profile macro keys and extra buttons or do you want something simpler.
For mice go to a (Somewhat well stocked.) store and see what they have, feel the display models and see what they are like to help decide, don't know if you can do the same with some of the mechanical keyboards as usually or at least here only cheaper models are on display and mechanical keyboards on average a bit more difficult to obtain.

The drawback for a mechanical keyboard would be it's price, also I suppose it would depend on which switch types people want and how those are set up.
The g710+ was a bit heavier and required a bit more force (They use MX Brown) whereas my current k95 (MX Red) uses a lighter switch though dampened so you don't hear that clicking sound, since the keys are so light it's pretty easy to accidentally trigger some other key.
For the mouse it would be price again, "gaming mice" is more of a marketing term as is the ever increasing DPI sensitivity, how it feels is going to be important which is why I suggested going to a store and "testing" some of them by holding them and pressing buttons and so on to see how comfortable they are, for example the g700s side buttons are a bit bulky and I preferred the g9x form though they are being discontinued from what I've read.
Those "G" keys for macro functionality can be useful if you want to use them but having a mouse with ~10+ buttons (or a keyboard with four or so rows of them.) feels a bit excessive to me. (Those so called MMO mice, although I guess they have their following or how to say.)
You are going to use both for a long period of time so comfort is going to be important albeit you do get used after a few days when switching from one device to another.
(Rubber-dome keyboards feel a bit weird now to me but it's nothing problematic, they're just a bit different.)
Eh I guess if you want LED and such you would have to look at that as well, both the g710 and g700 have them (Though for the g700 they denote battery life/status.) although to some people having multiple brightness levels and customizable keys or colors for led lighting is critical, heh.
(Same for having a LCD panel, I've had a g510 and a few others but I never really used that thing much.)
(Or weights for the mouse, that was a bit interesting with the g518 or what it was called.)
USB throughput or what it's name is could also be something, many "gaming keyboards" have at least one or two USB2 slots, the k95 and g710 both use two usb cables, one for the actual keyboard and one for the usb port(s)
I don't know what other advice to give, it's just the usual to check pricing and availability, maybe read other peoples reviews and opinions about said product either from online on forums or tech sites or directly on the store product page (Well that would also be online.)
(And yeah speaking about price some brands have a bit of a premium like you no doubt know, usually it's Razer stuff that's displayed everywhere and costs more than the competition but Logitech products are also priced a bit above others, Corsair I've never actually seen in a retail store, had to order those online directly and nearly any shop would have the usual MS mice and laptop mini-mice, actually those older Microsoft mice weren't too bad as I remember.)
EDIT: Maybe someone else can give some better actual drawbacks or pros, whether it's shoddy build quality or shit RMA procedures (Return policies?) although it would depend on where in the world you are living.
(Here it's usually handled by the store you bought the product from, whereas in the US it seems sending it directly to the product creator is more common, I suppose it would also depend a bit whom you get to service your order or talk to via phone support or similar, bit of a roulette with how that can go, ha ha.)
