Hi guys!

i've buyed a WD 3 TB Caviar Green, and only 2TB are "usable", the other 800 GB aprox, are shown as "unallocated", but no program so far has gave me the option to partition it into another drive.

any ideas?

Got an Asus Maximus III Gene as motherboard, from around 2.009. (But the BIOS detects the 3TB without a question).

weird.

Give that a try =) Basically remove all partitions and format the drive with a GPT boot table instead. That should allow you to handle more than 2.1TB.

Sorry to bring up such an old topic but this was close to what I am asking.

Is it possible to convert an MBR (with the 2TB limitation) to the GPT (for a 3TB drive) configuration WITHOUT starting from scratch? i.e. a partition tool?

Also note that the drive in question is the bootable drive with the OS and such. It's running Win7 64. Essentially, it's only got 2TB of useable storage at this point with the remaining space unallocatable.

Am I stuck with a complete resetup? Just trying to figure out my options. Thanks in advance!

Thanks scaramonga. We decided to just start from scratch and rebuild the system. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get that enabled Smile. Fun stuff.
