That's a surprisingly clever name for an SOE game
Zombie virus.

Is that Smedley's new 'SWG' MMO?
Ah well, we'll see how it will turn out.

Oh god...
Can only dream of a game being on SWG's (Pre-CU) level again. |
Well they were going for that again but with an all new IP, so might be this.

even post-CU would be better than anything that is out already/gets released in the next coming months.MMO`s nowadays are shit

While my hopes are low, I won't give up entirely on it. Or let's all be silent so the only thing that gets pumped out is 'Awsomebutton' games... Not a good plan

the whole genre of sandbox/openworld zombie games is a trainwreck
If it's even half finished it will be better than anything else out there

premise sounds pretty good, like dayz mmo+ version, dynamic fire, dynamic building etc.
Quote: | To use a simple reference I’m sure everyone interested in this game will get... we want our players to make Woodbury from The Walking Dead if they want to. Or take over a prison. Or fix an old car so you and your friends (yeah we have multiplayer vehicles) can run zombies and players over mercilessly, and revel in the sheer delight of hearing a zombie scream as you light it on fire, or craft a gun to take down your friends and enemies alike. Our goal here is to provide emergent gameplay that will allow our players to make the world their own the way they want to. One of the best things about H1Z1 being an MMO is the fact that with a lot of people playing, we’re able to see all different kinds of gameplay. If you prefer a quiet life as a farmer raising crops... we’re going to make sure your zombie apocalypse fantasy is complete. If you’re like me and you want nothing more than to kill everything that moves, by all means see how that goes. |
Supposedly we should see a (playable) early acces in 4 to 6 weeks.
Its got my attention thats for sure

Yeah, I don't like MMOs at all, but if by any chance they manage to create something that is relatively bugs-free, I might give it a shot after all. SOE did a good job with Planetside

A lot more info quoted from Reddit, the game looks really promising:
Quote: | Dev Posts
What is H1Z1 by Smed
Gameplay Details
First Person or Third Person shooter
Zombie Survival
Night is dark and full of terrors
Player versus Player at it's core.
More than just zombies in the world
Base Building, Town building, Fortress creation
Can burn down things others build.
Lots of crafting. Probably the biggest thing about the game.
Vehicles are already in. Possibility of aircraft in the future.
Based off the United States.
If you die, you lose your gear
"No skills or levels".
"Thousands of players". I'm willing to bet this will be larger, playercount wise, than planetside 2.
Tech Details
PC first, PS4 later. "Well, we are Sony" when asked about the PS4 version.
"If you can run Planetside 2, you can run H1Z1 better".
"Orders of magnitude larger than Planetside 2".
Based of Planetside 2. Shares no tech with Everquest Next (so no Voxels).
Built in voice chat options.
Monetization Details
Free to play
Part of the All-Access subscription that SOE is launching this month. $15/mo for premium sub in all SOE games.
"you seriously don't need to spend a dime. We're still figuring out the monetization but we will telegraph our plans early and let people comment and we'll listen if they don't like something and come to a place where people feel good about it." -Smed, in this thread
Early Access ($20ish, on steam) in 4-6 weeks.
When do we get more details?
Screenshots will start coming out almost immediately.
The next playtest will be Live streamed (I have good intel that it will be Monday). I'm still working on this thread and grabbing info that was posted. If you have something I missed please put it in the comments
EDIT: Also if you are on the dev team and want to spill more details be my guest |

Thats what I mean though, Would much rather just pay a buy 2 play or sub fee for something like this as opposed to some half assed freemium system
RTX ON

Well they wanted to enhance their All-Access-Sub with a core of better games. Had it for a while and liked that I could play all their games for a little more than a normal Subscription cost.
At least I like their view on free to play better now and their direction of trying to get the community bit more involved going for the 'Kickstarter' approach.
That being said it is SOE, so it will take a lot of time before I fully trust them again But at least they are communicating that they learned from their past
