Does anyone have a fav here that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
I'm not a headphone expert whatsoever and only ever use them in gym so now that I'm searching for a pair I'm stumped.
I'm not super picky about insane sound quality I just want something that 5.1 or 7.1 or whatever surround sound and wireless. I'll be using it for 3D gaming using the HMZ-T2 so they can't be super heavy and need to be rechargeable! And only over the ear!
So far I found pioneer SE-DIR800c, Sony MDR-6000 (insanely pricy) and sennheiser RS 180....senn is cheapest but awesome reviews...
Anyone can comment on any of the three? Or another model? Around 250-300 mark give or take

No
That's my comment.
Wireless headphones blow.
Get something like the Q701's or HD650's, etc..

Wrong.
But they will cost an arm, a leg and possibly one of your nuts. Sennheiser's RS220 is ridiculously good. I've had the opportunity to listen to them, they measure up to the 650's. The RS180 is nowhere near as good, but the Kleer thing they use actually eliminates all interference you usually get. It's just that it compresses the audio for transmission, then decompresses it and outputs into a pair of headphones that isn't as good as the more expensive ones.

Yes but as a none audiophile will I really notice any difference? Or are u saying the compression gives a sync problem with the game or the movie? Cause I didn't read anything about any lag with the 170 or 180 (leaning toward 170 cause it's same thing but cheaper and has virtual SS)

I own both the 650 and the Q701. I've listened to the RS 220 on multiple occasions and it fails to match. Not to mention they are more expensive as it is.
And really, the RS 220's are the *only* wireless headphones worth mentioning. The 180's lack soundstage.
Meanwhile, he could have spent substantially less and got some wired phones that sound discernibly better. For 3D gaming in particular the Q701's with their neutral sound and wide soundstage can't be beat for the money.

I haven't bought any yet I'm searching.... Technically I could get a wired with a long ass cable. Wonder if any of those wired have multi speaker true surround sound options.
I'm gonna check out the wired ones u posted now.

And forget the 220... Fuck that it's like 650 plus tax... That's retarded... 170 is as pricy as I'll go and it's 320 so 360 with tax

Yes, you would notice the difference, it's quite staggering really. And no, the 180 has barely any lag (there is some though, so you may notice a slight delay), but the compression obviously takes out some details, as compression always does.

There will obviously be some details the inferior 220's will miss, but it gets damn close to the 650's. Especially someone who doesn't know what he's looking for in terms of faults won't notice the difference.

You don't want multiple speakers, if you have anything even remotely decent driving them, software surround will always sound better.
To explain why that is without getting technical: surround sound works with speakers because just like in real life, sound behind you will enter your ear differently than sound from the side, which in turn comes in different from stuff in front of you. Most notably, sound from behind will always sound a little quieter, muffled. The problem with these "true" surround headphones is that the speakers are right there next to your ear, making the sound "get there" the same way for each channel.
What "virtual" or software surround does is take each channel and tune the amplitudes, frequencies and what not to approximate how it would in real life. In the end, that works out much better than any "true" surround piece of crap.
Every half-decent amp and even TV nowadays has this capability (as do soundcards in PCs); it won't be perfect, but rather than wasting money on an overpriced "surround" headset, you're better off spending that money on a higher quality pair of headphones. And just for the record, the RS220 for example does the exact same thing in its base station to give you the surround effect. You can also buy a dedicated headphone amp, which (apart from improving the audio in general) will often also be capable of doing this if your amp/TV can't.

Ahhhhh excellent explanation thank you. Well that narrowed my search. Regardless 220 is insanely pricy... I would get the HD558 wired or the rs180...problem with 180 being that atleast from the specs I see it doesn't have the surround sound like 170 does... Which is weird since it's basically same exact thing except 180 has auto level... Wired 558 is 100 bux cheaper but has all options. Anyone sell sennheiser? Bestbuy?

Keep in mind that your DAC (be it a soundcard, or external receiver) will need Dolby Headphone to get virtual surround out of your headphones.
And stay away from the 170's. They are closed 'cans and like any closed back headphone suffer from a lack of soundstage. For virtual surround you want something with a large soundstage. (What open back headphones are best at) While they include a virtual surround option it is lacking compared to Dolby Headphone, or even CMSS-3D.

Doesn't the HMZ-T2 have a headphone jack on it? I could swear that I saw a volume button that that bastard...
If not, please disregard, I'm suffering from some hallucinations today. Gotta love prescription meds!

Most of those external DAC's don't have technologies like Dolby Headphone.
You are best off getting some of the cheaper Asus cards and a headphone amp, or something like the STX which includes a headphone amp. This way you'll get stuff like Dolby Headphone.

bumping!
Right now I have Xonard DG (and using normal asus drivers, they are fine. Not sure if its worth toying with unixonar whatever) and Creative Aurvana Live!
This is is great setup (headphones especially) and I like the sound. Defienietly best headphones I've ever had in terms of sound quality. but cal! headband(earcups are great) is not too comfortable and wire is rather short.
I am a weirdo because I am very stingy about cables. I don't want microphone, because I never use that, so having two jack's is a big no. Cal! is close to perfect because It don't have microphone, so that means less cables inside earcups and one jack. It have Y shaped cables which I also prefetc because in each cup only two cables are connected so it would be extremely easy to solder on another cable in case this one breaks. When cable is coming from one headphone then it means that it's coming around to other cup in headband. It's ok too, but I don't trust those... well maybe because every headphones I had, were headsets with microphone so cables inside were a total mess. that way or another, with Cal! it's clean and simple. They sound great and cable is great. A bit short but enough when connected to my front jack in a case.
So I've been wondering is 2014 futuristic enough to finally have someting wireless? and I don't mean to throw away cal!. I understand those will play better than any wireless headphones. it's considered a fantastic pair even by audipfreaks on head-fi and that's why I bought it.
But I also want something wireless to when I want to just put on headphones without any hassle.
now... I don't say I will buy something. I just want to look around in 100$ range. And the main candidate here seems to be this: Playstation stereo headset gold
http://us.playstation.com/ps3/accessories/playstation-gold-wireless-headset.html
it is wireless. have option to connect via detachable jack or usb and play when charging. Have couple of set equalizers and is compatibille with ps4 and pc. That would be usefull if I would get ps4 sometime in the future.
The question is, how is it working wirelessly on pc and what is the quality like. Most people say comfort is great but sq is mixed bag. Some love it and some say complete opposite... Guess it have something to do with eq switch and some people not changing it.
for wireless use, There is small usb dongle. Wonder if it would take signal from my xonar and only send it via dongle or is it some terrible dongle usb sound card in itself...
this headset looks ok tho. and the price is right. I am interested

No.
#1: your CAL is better.
#2: you lose all audio processing capabilities from your Xonar
Nothing has changed on the wireless front. It still all boils down to Sennheiser's RS180 for an affordable, decent pair of cans or Sennheiser's RS220 for a high-end pair.
Decent in the sense that the RS180 (and up to a point, 170) is a mid-range pair of cans, with a wireless premium added that may or may not be worth it if you want wireless.

just as I expected ;/
Would get steelseries H but its so expensive it out of the range of consideration.
meh, I guess I will happily stay with CAL and if I will get ps4, there is always controller jack to connect into
rs 180/170 seem good but a bit pricey for me and it seems clumsy in some way

Clumsy? How?
And yeah I saw the H Wireless. Not sure how good it is, the transmitter does look awesome though and the dual batteries seem like a good idea. Might see if I can get a review sample

I bought Sennheiser's RS120, they just arrived today. To be honest? I couldn't be happier. Yes, there's slight hissing when I don't tune it properly, and it hisses when I turn the volume up/down for a brief second, but is otherwise perfect for my needs. And I only paid 56 bucks for it.
