Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2049430629/flagship-space-strategy-from-a-first-person-perspe

Quote:
Flagship is a real-time strategy game set on a galactic scale, played from a first person perspective. Command your fleet from the bridge of your ship, explore the stars and expand your territory.

Humanity had only just begun its expansion beyond the solar system when it came face to face with a thriving and hostile galaxy. After a disastrous defeat the Sol system was lost and the remains of the human race were forced into a backwater system. With limited resources and a skeleton fleet, it's up to you to rebuild what has been lost, or forge a new empire from the ashes.

The game is being built from the ground-up to be played with the Oculus Rift, though it can be played without on

Quote:
Early days yet, though, with the game currently planned for a 2015 launch. From the FAQ area of the site it appears that there's a few major decisions yet to be made, like whether or not players can jump into the fight in smaller fighters and bombers.

"For the initial release of the game we're looking at exploration, resource management, galactic strategy and tactical ship-to-ship combat," say developers Urban Logic. "Keeping the scope relatively small will allow us to really concentrate on these aspects of the game design. Our hope is that the game will sell well enough on initial release to allow us to expand the game into other areas."

Along with a clarification that they won't be releasing the game through Early Access yet because they don't feel it would provide value for money in its current pre-alpha state, it seems like the dev team have got their heads screwed on properly.

Star Citizen reallly started something. There was nothing before. Now there's plenty of space sim type games coming and I love it.

Taking into account the pre-alpha assets, that looks insanely fun Smile

Looks good. Would like to see a MP version of this with ability to have multiple players in a single ship.

Really cool, reminds me of Silent Hunter for some reason, but in space Very Happy
I'm not too familiar with recent games in this genre, so don't burn me, but I haven't really seen a good FPS/RTS hybrid since Battlezone. But it seems like this could be fun!

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

I've been thinking about it, and actually I can't name a good (recent) one either. We've got some shooters with RTS elements from time to time (NS2, Enemy Territory, or Arma to a certain degree) but very rarely we've seen a proper first person RTS. Let's hope for the best Very Happy

Sounds like the game I've been dreaming of! Still not sure if I'm going to back it, there have been way too many failures lately and this could be a bit of a stretch.
