Posted: Sun, 1st Jun 2014 20:52 Post subject: My very first vacation ever! |
|
 |
So in exactly 2 months from now, i will be boarding a plane towards my very first vacation!
I will be going for 2 weeks and 3 days towards the Philippines.
It will take all my savings in order to have this vacation.
There will be someone waiting for me at the airport, we will be staying the first 2 days in Manila. After that we will board the plane towards Cagayan de Oro and with a taxi or jeepney towards Iligan, where we will stay the rest of the vacation.
I have been looking up tons of information about traveling, what things to look out for, what things not to do etc etc.
Now anyone got some experience they are willing to share with me? About traveling in general or anyone that has gone to the Philippines themselves?
Any good advice is welcome!

- Don't be an asshole to the natives.
- Store documents and / or cash money in hotel room safe.

A few more tips
- Stay away from minibar.
- Don't leave your clothes lying around or they may be taken to the laundry and you will probably have to pay for it.

But you mean lying around as in the hotel room instead of stuffed away?

Don't know about Philippines, but generally when going to some exotic places (for us, Europeans) you should look up common diseases that you should take a vaccine against not to have problems. Or like with Egypt - you shouldn't drink tap water etc, as our "stomachs" are not used the the bacteria there and you can have some unpleasantries.

Yep hotel room, clothes that aren't in a wardrobe cabinet could be taken to laundry. Depending on hotel class, clothes could be taken even from the bed or chair used as clothes hanger.

Everything should be safe in there as long as you don't do anything that is too much "out of the ordinary" (read: stupid xD). Locals are very much used to tourists/visitors, I wouldn't worry about anything in particular. Just have fun and enjoy every moment of it
A friend went there with the girlfriend some weeks ago and came back all enthusiastic. Apparently it's very cheap too, which is always a plus.
And yes, I are teh jelly

Typhus, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Hepatits B and maybe Pertussis vaccinations. Keep in mind that Hep A/B vaccinations can take several weeks, so get this done asap.
I have the same problem, will have a ~2 week business trip to india and I didn't have any vaccinations for the last... uuuuughh years

Why the Philippines tho?
Wouldn't be my first vacation destination, partially since I don't see the attraction and well it's not the easiest destination for a first timer, especially when avoiding the more common places.
That being said: be humble! No one likes a brazen foreigner
