Haha, they just wrote that theyre official position was "not scared" in another article. They DO have all reasons to be scared because IE is a big pile of ****. It's like the lamest, buggiest and most infested app I ever tried. They have all reasons to strengthen it. The inbuilt konqueror in KDE is even better, lol.

The funny part with Windows media player and Internet explorer is that there exists features for removing the app BUT infact it only hides them. I removed IE with nLite. If you're not familiar with it, It's an app to customize Windows installations.

No, the new Netscape has such a feature inbuilt. Firefox on the other hand, has an addon to open pages in IE from the right click menu. I think It's called "IE-view" or something like that.

Hilarious. Why would you want to disable it? It's used in many windows features such as rendering thumbnails of pics in windows explorer...

PS: 1.) I like Mozilla but 2.) Mozilla opening app time is much longer than IE, can't render as many pages, and when IE revamps it's browser, the Netscape v Microsoft result will be repeated and MS will wipe the floor with Mozilla. Nuf said.

Mozilla is better and more secure because it controls a much smaller percentage of the market, as it grows, so will its problems.

I didn't remove the IE core just the app. There is also a feature for removing the core but It makes some things unusable. The opening time is because of IE being a part of the OS. It's not Mozilla's fault. I you don't like the loading time, use Opera instead or get your computer hijacked.

I've had IE crash on me and bring explorer down with it, so keeping it seperate would be a better idea.

But then Ive never had konqueror crash on me.

I know there are real security issues, but how often is the everyday user going to come accross them? I've been using IE since... hell since it was created and haven't had a single problem with it asides from occasional crashes. My only complaint is that there are no tabs... but I could get some add-on to do that I'm sure. Still love Mozilla though, it has some excellent potential. Of course, D4rknight is right on the money in saying that as the user base grows, so will security issues, so one of the main reasons people chose Mozilla will be compromised hehe.

"no once netscape supports ActiveX it's bye bye IE"

nah I doubt it will happen. Something might come close like mozilla, but in the foreseeable future i cant see anything getting even half the market share...

edit

Well, good and bad news for Mozilla:

The good: it made enough of an impact for Microsoft to announce IE 7 "The new version of IE, which Gates said is to be released for preliminary testing this summer, will have new protections against viruses, spyware and phishing scams, which fool users into entering sensitive information on Web pages that appear to be legitimate."

The bad: Mozilla might have more trouble competing for market share against a new IE...

Personally, the only thing I want them to add is tabbed browsing, but we shall see!

I see another SP2 moment on its way. Adding safe guards to the safe guards and asking you questions every 3 secconds while trying to complete simple tasks:

"Are you sure you want to visit this URL, it is not in your safe URL access list"

"The URL you have entered is in the MICROSOFT BAD WEBSITE database, please enter a URL which is not in this database to continue"

I can see it like its happening now when I try to run an EXE file...

Firefox breaks 25 million downloads

Quote:

On February 15th, exactly 99 days after it was released, Firefox 1.0 smashed through the 25 million download milestone.

"Thank you." says Blake on spreadfirefox.com "Thank you for helping us take this product from 25 to 25 million, from our little corner of the world to yours, from the technically elite to Karen and Rimone."

"Twenty five million Firefox downloads is a significant achievement, and we see that number continuing to grow," said Mitchell Baker, president of the Mozilla Foundation. "Firefox is being rapidly adopted by the mainstream, with this audience embracing Firefox as a more user-friendly web browsing solution."

Firefox downloads have continues at a steady rate since it's launch in November, with well above 200,000 downloads per day.

With Internet Explorer 7 being released as beta in the summer, and Firefox 1.1 planned for June, 2005 is looking to be a pretty good for browser development (lets hope, eh).

If Firefox held over 50% of the market share, I'd either go back to an IE based tab browser or Opera. I don't believe IE is any worse than Firefox, just different. It's also the most common browser making it the most targeted.

Microsoft gave the press an MSN Search screenshot – using Firefox, but denies that it had done so

Quote:

Oddly enough, Microsoft is promoting Mozilla Firefox. The company recently provided the press with a screenshot of MSN Search displayed on the open source browser. Microsoft's PR firm denied using Firefox for any of MSN Search's screenshots
Alert reader Dror Levin read a review of the new MSN Search on the Seattle Post Intelligencer. He noticed something strange about the screenshot in the article, found a larger version of it and was surprised to find out that while the OS was Windows XP, the browser used was Firefox.

The photo credit says "(AP Photo/HO/Microsoft)", which means it was distributed to AP by Microsoft.

Brian Peterson, of Microsoft's PR firm Waggener Edstrom, said: "None of our approved/distributed screen shots of MSN Search were made using a Mozilla Firefox browser. Moving forward, we will not be commenting on this issue".

Recently, MSN.com's Tech and Gadgets section's "Today in Downloads" recommended software was Firefox. But that may not have been done by design, as the software recommendations originate in CNET's Download.com. Microsoft declined to comment on this.

Mozilla Warns of Firefox Security Holes

Quote:

Several security vulnerabilities in Firefox and the Mozilla Suite of Internet software put users of the open-source products at risk of hacker attacks, the Mozilla Foundation is warning. The organization released Firefox 1.0.1, which fixes 17 security flaws in the popular Web browser. The most serious flaws could allow an attacker to gain full control over a victim's PC, the Mozilla Foundation says in a statement. Firefox 1.0 was released in November and has since been downloaded more than 27 million times.

Firefox 1.0.1 also includes several fixes to guard against spoofing of Web addresses and the security indicator on Web sites. These vulnerabilities could be exploited for phishing scams, which typically use spam e-mail messages to drive people towards fraudulent Web pages that look like legitimate e-commerce sites. One of the changes made in Firefox 1.0.1 is in the way the browser handles international domain names (IDNs). These names are now displayed differently to make it easier to spot spoofed Web sites. Because of the way Firefox displayed IDNs, it was possible to register domain names with international characters that resembled other common characters, thus tricking users into believing they were on a trusted Web site.

Mozilla Drops 1.8 Release, Introduces Transition Plan

Quote:

Mozilla has just announced that it will not be releasing or supporting any subsequent versions of its "Mozilla Suite" software. The suite has been moved aside so that Mozilla can focus on developing its key offerings, including Firefox and Thunderbird. Mozilla still plans to release an interim 1.7.x build in the near future, which will ultimately become the last officially supported Foundation release.

The 1.7.x line will be the last set of Seamonkey products released and maintained by the Mozilla Foundation. The Mozilla Foundation will provide infrastructure for those interested in working on the 1.7.x releases, which we expect will include a number of vendors who provide these products to their customers. We've committed to support the 1.7 branch some time ago. If we ship 1.8 we'll need to support that as well, and we just can't manage supporting that many versions as well as Firefox and Thunderbird releases.

In related news, Firefox developer Ben Goodger announced that Foundation will be pursuing the Firefox 1.1 Plan with renewed effort. Described as being "an important incremental update to Firefox 1.0” with “major enhancements to the Gecko platform", Firefox 1.1 will certainly receive a lot more attention now that the suite is on the chopping block.

Man, Firefox is bitchin! I was skeptical at first, but decided to give it a go.
Well, the community support on this browser is second to none. All sorts of extensions/plugins make this thing one hella a time saver.
Integrated searchbar without bloatware, RSS feeds, etc, just overall its awesome.
Tabs be my new best friend =)

Have had one instance of integrated WMP streamfeed not launching from it though.

Think it was razor1394 who had it in his sig for a while, was how I first found it, thanks man.
