Animation in the trailer looks atrocious.
Very cheap and soulless.
They are trying to force heart in with quirky movements.

The writing is sometimes atrocious.
If not by it, it wouldn't be that bad.
Why everything needs to be anime now if it's US show?

You remember when dc used a sweat animation shop from Korea for their dc animation movies and they turned out shit but profitable?
Same shit here. Affordable, mass produced animation with no soul, but just anchors and key frames. Mostly what they use for kids cartoons these days. Cheaper and faster produced. Flash 
As for why anime? Its no longer niche.
Its mainstream.
It's popular.
Its the it thing.
If its anime it is art, important, not a cartoon.
Its a selling point.
American anime now is just shovelware. Cheap, easy to produce and monies go to creative team that can't come up with a legit story apart from their pitch.
Probably some bipoc is involved in this and got it produced based on spec.

I hate Netflix' shitty 15 fps CGI anime, back in early 2000s when this started it was kinda novel but quickly became outdated and shit, but I get it, its alot cheaper than paying a good animation study for classic animation.
The only recent anime where this was acceptable were Beastars and Dorohedoro, because both of those are very stylized and have a unique feel.

There's a fucking difference and that difference is the writing/screenplay/producing being done by non Japanese and then animated by a Japanese studio. They just don't get what makes Japanese anime good.
Compare that to "Blame!", another CGI anime that released on Netflix that was only made by Japanese people (where the source is also a Japanese hard sci fi manga).
And it's awesome (though the Manga is obviously much better still). Sure the CGI could be better in that one too but I think it worked really well all considering, mostly probably thanks to the dark setting.

It is anime.
Only a handful of myanimelist subscribers can tell the actual difference between anime and hot topic anime.
But row doesn't care, and doesn't see a difference. To them this is anime and you can't say a thing to sway their opinion.
Yall weebs wanted the world to appreciate anime, take it out of the niche and into the mainstream so that people can appreciate creative story telling and top notch animation by studios and artists who put love and soul into their works.
This is how you do it. You flood the market with mainstream shit, get people interested and hopefully they'll experience real anime only to turn it off because they have to think for a moment:lol:
