So i sat down and a damn zig zag spring broke. Now i'm terrified that others will break because the missing spring will produce too much strain on the rest. It's not even my sofa Laughing Holy shit this is terrible. The spring broke at the middle of the last bend. Anyone got any tips how to mend it somehow or another method of support instead of the spring?

You could run tough cord between all the other springs in a web like pattern to help lift the load but its probably only thing you can do apart from some major replacements or a bit of 2x4 brace and some tinkering Very Happy

this happened to me too, after 1) roommate had a few rolls in the hay on it, and 2) fat girl repeatedly plopped on it. The couch was a cheapo from one of those 'rooms 2 go' type stores. Cutting open the bottom and peering inside I swear the thing was made with balsa wood. Ended up adding new supports and replaced the 'spine' with some proper wood, and re-fastened all the springs properly. Thing still works to this day.

Better to construct a little support beam, not that comfy but it will help the rest from breaking. Too bad it's not in separate pieces or you could get away with using a section like that from another sofa.

I'm not sure a beam would help at all tbh. Where the springs bend, a wooden beam/plank is stiff and would be the only thing supporting me which would make it break pretty fast. I'm thinking about jerry rigging some bullshit solution with wires replacing the spring. Just have them slack enough to support the others at maximum. Problem would be how to fasten this bullshit. I'm terrible with this kind of work...Always have been Laughing
