I just saw this on kickstarter and thought it looks sick i always loved western games and western in general, i kinda liked the desperados games but this seems a shitton better so i will probably back it.

Quote:
In a nutshell, Hard West is a turn-based squad tactical with adventurous world exploration. Think X-Com combat with Heroes of Might and Magic world map.

Yep and i really love the artstyle and the weird western setting they are going for it's even better then a realistic western setting in my book.

Some info about the devs:
Quote:
Our team consists of industry veterans and talented fresh blood. The people of company created already games such as Call of Juarez, Dead Island, Hard Reset, Shadow Warrior as well as lots of artistic projects, indie flash and casual games.

So you like the concept but because they don't offer a physical version you're not backing it? Scratch Head

To each his own, I guess.

Who the hell wants a physical copy these days? I see absolutely no point in yet another shit collecting dust on my shelves.

Looks excellent - however, will it have multiplayer support? Would be damn fun to go up against my mates like I used to do in Fallout Tactics Smile

Edit: Doesnt seem like so. Still, looks brilliant Smile

Well, Interinactive has spent thousands of monies on physical copies so it's his thing.
I do agree with you tho but that's our preference. Surprised

Western + turn based combat + focus on exploration -> Drooling

Sounds really awesome on paper. It actually looks good too, judging from the gifs, nice details in there.

The setting is called weird west http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weird_West so it's not exactly traditional western thats true, but i think this makes for a more interesting game anyway.
Î hope they take some inspiration from the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlands p&p rpg.

Why back a digital version early? To beta test it for them? To be pissed if it doesn't come out? To wait delay after delay for your spent cash to manifest into a finish product?

Imagine (as a backer) buying Planetary Annihilation (which still isn't finished) and seeing it go for the discounted prices all the time

So unless early beta testing access it your thing, I don't see any real benefits.

Well no, I don't like paying to beta test, that's why I honestly haven't backed that many projects (like 2 I think) to begin with.
But how would it differ what you just said if there was an amount you paid for an actual physical copy when the game releases (because I assume, and correct me if I'm wrong, that's what you mean).
So going on that assumption, how would it be better to pay let's say 80-150 USD for a physical edition than paying 15 USD for a digital one? (I know you like to collect games with physical copies but that's beside the point)

From now on I'm basically VERY skeptic about funding anything unless they actually have some sort of demo and not just a bunch of concept art.

@Interinactive I agree, I would certainly wait for the game to actually come out before buying it (in some cases get the EA or pirate it).

Anywho, I'm not backing it either way, whether there's a digital or physical copy.

I wish them the best but they're not getting any of my money (until it's released and it's not gobshite).

Your selling me a little on the physical copies Inter, I like to have something in my hands at the end of the day so I get it. Although I'd imagine these days there would be barely any effort put into them (i.e box with piece of paper with URL to steam inside?) and only 60% or games actually ship in physical form.

The other problem is they want you to pay extreme dollars for anything current in physical form. I like that just about every game i want to play these days winds up sub $20 often offered with all sequels and dlc in a matter months online.

I always hear the xbox peasants at work talking of $99 Wolfenstein etc. when ill wait til next year and get it for $8 on steam or g2play.

Yeah, have to say that dampened my enthusiasm as well. Think I'll wait until it releases before giving it a yea or nay.

oh, nice that it's actually based on something, then
those in the know with the weird west stuff, are the monsters just terrible bullet sponges or is there something more interesting than that?
cos that's what ruined the mentioned fallout tactics and silent storm

Exactly it was not the supernatural stuff that ruined those games it was the mechanics around those.

I'm glad the game is nearly 60% funded already. They're gonna make it.

The backbone is a 2 AP system (meaning: each character has 2 action points, all actions, including movement, cost either 1 or 2 APs). That is because it's the most elegant solution out there: it makes all the decisions more important, and the game clearer; you don't have to calculate APs; you never miss "just a few" APs to carry out your plan; you don't have reduntant APs remaining; the pace is faster because you don't get to tiptoe square by square (which is, after all, the safest and most reasonable tactic in most games that allow it).

I like it! Snappy and effective Very Happy
