The hero was a passenger of the ship.
He's nameless again.
The first person you meet in the game is a woman.
The Inquisitor, the woman Sara and our hero are the only survivors.
The outlaws/rebels live in a swamp camp.
The Inquisitor resides in a Volcano Stronghold (?) (not sure about this one)
The Volcano is active.
There will be cinematic sequences. (?)
You have to choose a fractions almost from the very beginning of the game.
GameStar thinks the game is gonna be released earliest at fall.
Monsters:
Stingrat (Stachelratte)
Gnom(es ?) (neutral)
Boars, wolves, skeletons etc.
Gyrger (evil and good, a sort of own race.)
Vulture
Ghul (I think it's Ghoul)
Ashbeast (looks like an eyeless gorilla)
Stingrats are a mix between a rat and a hedgehog.
The nameless Hero came to the island as a stowaway aboard a ship of the inquisition.
Sara is the first living person the Hero meets on the island.
The stronghold next to the volcano is the headquarter of the inquisition.
- The vulcano was dormant before but now, whenever it erupts, new ruins rise from the ground
- Creatures that can be found in the ruins are (at least) the ashbeast and skeletons; monsters down there are supposed to be scary, have a good hearing and sharp claws
- Ruin exploration will be rewarded by finding mighty artefacts (what a surprise )
- Some details are still missing
- Realtime shadows and "lavishly" illumination system
- Sounds are calculated dynamically; the ruins "soak up" the sound of the environment and a wind (draught) is blowing through the debries every now and then because the lava from the vulcano creates a stack effect (like a chimney)
- There will be traps to disarm and riddles to solve
- Sometimes, you will need to transform into another creature to progress further into the caves
- About 40% of the play time will be underground
So this will be from the real makers of gothic? So this is basically the "real" gothic 4 while the upcoming release named Gothic 4 published by Jowood will be just the usually bugged jowood crap?
rofl yeah it's the same thing as Operation flashpoint and Arma, they loose the license so they simply change the name and make the same game/sequel as usual with a different story but not by much in this game, nameless one again what's wrong with Steve jesus.
1- Are you guys using the Gothic 3 engine (Genome engine)?
They can't use the Genome Engine. It belongs to Jowood. But they can use the experience gained while developing the Genome Engine while building the new one.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah! Hopefully they have learned something, that engine was a bugfest.
edit- a more proper response:
1- Are you guys using the Gothic 3 engine (Genome engine)?
2-If yes: Why or at least will you promise us that the game won't be a bug fest?
3-If not: Is because it's your design style? They may resemble Gothic 3 in some parts but in fact you are using a brand new engine
1) Selfmade Engine.
2) Since we seem to have enough time to get the bugs out- let´s hope we will find them all.
3) PB Games have a certain style. Regardless, which Tech-Base is used. This is a concious decission, and I, as the AD have to keep an Eye out, so it doesn´t look too realistic.
i would like to play as steve jesus. not in the sense that they should let me change my char's name to whatever, but it would be cool if they made a story around steve too. like jesus' brother, for example, exacting sweet revenge on those who got his bro killed.
I'm still looking forward to this, just because Gothic 1 and 2 are two of the best RPG's I've ever played.

Well that's what I've heard and it could have been heavily reworked and altered by now, see for example what "Trinie" did with it for Forsaken Gods or what the Community Patch will do for it in th 1.70 update, still it could be a different engine but I'm a bit uncertain.
EDIT: Should probably also be noted that several engine issues were corrected with help from Spellbound in the 1.60 version of the community patch so the engine can be "fixed" and I guess Piranha Bytes would be able to do quite a bit of work on it as they're the ones who developed in the first place.
(It was however very unfinished and the code a bit messy so I would also understand that starting over might have been a valid point though required extra development time which is part of what hit Gothic 3 worst as they sort of ran out of time and had to release the game.)
They can´t use the Gothic 3 Engine in Risen because its owned by JoWood. Maybe they use their private code base for building the new Engine based on Genome but the lead programmer who did that mess left Piranha Bytes long time ago. The guys there also told that Risen will bring back the feeling of Gothic 2, skipping the mistakes they did with G3 and JoWood.
Risen is one of the few games iam quite sure it will rock.
That also makes sense now that you mention it but from what I heard Jowood and Piranha Bytes reconciled and thus JW will be the publisher though I recently heard that Deep Silver is also involved so I'm a bit unsure.
(JW for EU and Deep Silver for US perhaps?)
I don't think Jowood will be involved in any way. PB just stated that Spellbound will be able to ask questions and such if they feel the need. We can't know how sincere that offer is of course.
After the Gothic 3 debacle, which was maybe 80% PB's fault if you've followed all the drama, has put me completely off Risen. It's irrelevant though, I'll still play both agmes.
I'm pretty sure they've understood that problem by now, I guess that troll creature (Other screens posted previously in this thread.) will be more challenging than a "simple" boar.
(Taking the logic from the earlier G1/G2 game that animals were dangerous at lower levels with crap weapons and nearly no armor but nowhear near as deadly as a monster such as a Black Troll or Shadow Beast.)
I never understood the problem with the boars. A pissed off boar will rip apart a warrior king any day. Look at the eyes, those are crazy eyes.
You're kidding, right? The animal attacks are what killed Gothic 3 for me >_> Stunlock FTL!
Besides, we know a pissed off boar would gore a warrior king .. but this isn't real life. In life you wouldn't have a magical fireball with which to cook said boar
