Also: Wow, it looks like they really did fix the 3rd person perspective. Now I can actually take in the details!

Wow thanks for those details JBeckman. Sounds like they made a lot of the improvements I was hoping to see in this new expansion, can't wait for it to come out!

J - is the memory leak present under all 64 bit variants of OS'es or only Vista/7, any idea?
I put about 20 hours into this game (about half of which was spent crashing/restarting), so I just called it quits. However, I'm thinking of making a dual boot into XP to play it.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Sacred MP scene is DEAD.
Just logged into Diablo 2 and noticed over 150k players were online.

Memory leaks and crashes are present on all OS's but hit x64 systems much harder for some reason, especially after patch 2.43 for some reason, both W7 x86 and x64 gets compatibility problems from what I've read albeit setting Sacred2.exe to XP SP3 compatibility somewhat fixes the situation but you'll still get random crashes on W7 64-bit.
(XP and Vista 32-bit works best of all OS's albeit some crashes are still expected, Elite textures will further strain the game as it'll run out of it's maximum of 400MB cache much quicker and the streaming engine will fail and eventually crash, I might show a comparison between the normal and elite textures though for the expansion areas it's not needed as the new textures are only standard-res, same with all updated textures from patches actually so the Elite's are mainly a bonus but nice to have for close camera controls as they're 1024x1024 if the normal textures are 512x512 and so on.)
It might get fixed in a update but I don't hold much hope in that many new updates being released for the game, it's kinda like Titan Quest in that it's still semi-active albeit the developers aren't around anymore.
(Unsure about the studio that developed it, supposedly a side branch of Ascaron that's still around albeit probably not that active after the recent layoffs as Sacred 3 will be handled by some other development studio.)

No news, though I expect you guys who use the pirated version and cracks will be able to play the newest version with the Ice & Blood expansion if it's ever localized (US version is unknown due to disagreements with the publisher and the developers don't actually exist anymore as the studio was closed shortly after the gold announcement, still has bugs but those will probably never be fixed such as incompatible with Windows 7 unelss worked around via alternate means which might cause crashes and glitches instead, part of the changes in version 2.43, expansion is version 2.64.), albeit it has some issues and the protection is a new version of SecuROM online activation plus possible protection triggers so a crack might take time.
It's fun though and quite a challenge but the new areas are full (Highest monster density in any game ever.) of high level monsters so hardcore (And even normal) characters on platinum are going up against level 210 to 220 enemies with tons of special attacks and bonuses.
(The endbosses for each region are pretty badass as well but even the normal enemies are deadly due to how many of them there are when in larger groups.)

Details on the first update for Ice & Blood, should be out later on, perhaps in time for the English release which sems to be on October 2nd. |
I'll be a happy camper if they fix the windows 7 64 problems.
If not, no sense in me buying the expansion.

Now available in English (Expansion), might see a release soon although as far as I know it still isn't patched so it has a few issues.

+1. I was really getting into it - but in the end the constant crashing was just too much of a hassle to make it worth playing any further.

You tried the new Dragon Mage class yet? If so, how is it? Inquisitor to me in S2 was a real disappointment since I was after a true caster class. Dragon Mage seems like a Battlemage of sorts, but does it at least have decent talent trees to allow a mainly caster-based gameplay style?

I downloaded a version of Blood and Ice from usenet... The readme etc is in English, but when I try to install it, it says "The language version of this patch is not compatible with the installed version of Sacred 2" - I guess this was the French version but it says English was included...
=(
edit: hmm, the reloaded version is the UK version, isn't it? Can anyone confirm that this Russian version works and is in English?

The expansion works by overwriting various files (EDIT: Instead of patching them.) so that's why it happens and why installation works, localization is controlled via the language key in the registry (The Sacred2\Locale\ folder so en_UK language would be\Locale\En_Uk\)
I'll upload what I can.
(Speechhq, Speechhq1, Speechlq and Speechlq1 excluded due to their size, pretty sure speechhq2 and speechlq2 covers quite a bit of the voice acting in the expansion unless it replaced the hq1 and lq1 files as well though those seem to be mainly what the updates installed.)

Rename the file in the System folder DFA.DLL
It's a bugged release.
That file is part of the SecuROM online activation method the expansion uses, without it the game won't ask for activation and it will start but several of the expansions archives (those packed .zip files.) are encrypted and the game won't function correctly without them.
For example you won't hear most of the new voice acting, dragon mage character will be unplayable and some other stuff due to the game not being able to read those encrypted files.

I haven't played much as a dragon mage as I've been playing on higher difficulty levels with my older characters so I can't say much about him aside form the quick tutorial level I've ran trough, bit of a mix between a warrior and a mage, kinda like the "vampiress" of Sacred 1 with various forms and abilities but I need more playtime, access to both light and dark campaigns but he works for his own goals (To become the dragon mage.)
As for the expansion you can install it over any version of the game if altered via the registry as long as you have at least version 2.40 installed (Included on the expansion disc.)
It'll overwrite quite a few files actually (You can rename the Sacred folder and it'll install all files and you can see just how much it alters.) version is changed to 2.64 and the game is quite a bit better balanced and more challenging with less exploits and similar, voice acting is still a bit overdone and comical but there's not much of it aside from for the new character you can play as.
(I posted some other details about the game page or two back as well.)
Some of the files (The .zip archives the game use.) are now encrypted and it'll need to go trough the DFA.dll (SecuROM digital file activation or what it's name is.) file in order to process them, without that file the game will start but will miss a bit of data, most notably what I wrote above but some smaller glitches here and there, can crash as well but it's not the most stable title to begin with.

Is it possible that playing the expansion with the crack could block a legit Sacred 2 key? I wouldn't want tio risk that.
