Bobby Kotick just announced a new studio called 'Beachhead' that will be building digital content for Call of Duty. Unclear what that means.

"Beachhead will create the best-in-class online community, exclusive content, and a suite of services to supercharge the online gaming experience like never before. The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time. The platform has been in development for over a year and we're very excited about the increased value we can bring to the community. We look forward to sharing more specifics on this exciting new endeavor with you in the near future."

Is this the first step toward the long-rumored pay-for-play Call of Duty online mode? Activision hasn't said yet, but statements about how Beachhead will be creating "special services" for Call of Duty are easy to read as such.

Activision says no new Blizzard titles in calendar 2011, two likely in 2012.

Because as the community manager of Treyarch said gamers are sooo negative just for the sake of being negative and that stops developers who try to make innovative games from succeeding lol wut

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY NOW TREYARCH???

The worse thing is that weak fuckers will continue buying and buying, and buying, no matter how many CoDs or DLCs are there.

Yeah, for a while. Eventually it will peak and then if pushed further crash.

BTW check the OP for the edits I did, Beachhead was founded to make "a suite of services to supercharge the online gaming experience" of CoD. Doesn't that sound like they're going forward with the subscription based CoD plan?

You do realize when COD crashes they'll just create another franchise and milk it the exact same way.

You can't "create" franchises that sell like CoD just like that.

Perhaps you can create a few franchises that sell 5 million units which is very good, but franchises that sell 5 million units on the first day? That's very hard.

Perhaps not the first game, but they just stamp "by the creators of the call of duty series" and i bet it will sell like hell.

UPDATE:

http://venturebeat.com/2011/09/06/call-of-duty-consumes-the-time-of-four-or-five-activision-studios-video/

Quote:
Activision has said that it has more than 500 developers working on Call of Duty, the best-selling video game series of all time, which generates billions of dollars in revenue. The company has four or five studios working on Call of Duty titles at any given time, which is more manpower than most video game companies have working on all of their franchises.

So, it's around 150 people on a single game. Seems reasonable for such an awesome cinematic experience.

Is it coincidental that the first letter of all those studios spell out TRIBS?

This escalation reminds Guitar Hero.
I wonder if they just don't care anymore and stop learning with their mistakes.
Something is very wrong here.

Why do you guys keep mentioning "mistake", "stupid" and "learn from it"? As long as people buy anything with COD stamped on it, milking it is not a mistake, it's very smart business.

Exactly. Oversaturated the market. That's not good business. You loose money in the mid term with this strategy. So what it onlyseems to matter is today and maybe tomorrow too, but not after. This is not a sound politic. It's a prelude for disaster.
