I think the white led backlight that every consumer monitor has now, somehow it makes TNs look worse, esp. colors look "wronger".
My ancient TN with CCFL tube lights looked better than the newer 144hz panel I had for 2 weeks.
Size is also a factor, ~25inches+ you can't escape the vertical color shift even when sitting straight in front of the screen.
Wait for AUO's panel to come out in a monitor. Fuck this TN piece of shit, it needs to drop 50% in price before it becomes worth it.
Then again, I don't know how you've been playing on your 2233rz TC, even by TN standards that monitor is truly, truly horrible. I think you have no idea of just how much is lost due to that monitor's crappy ass panel.
I wanna visit a local Microcenter shop and try and see this monitor in person
What a bunch of crap
Best "monitor for gaming" Blind gamers maybe, because in most games, I'd imaging color is very fucking much important. Maybe in Durrps of War, where everything is tinted diarrhea/sepia.
It's true that for a TN panel, it is very well calibrated. However, it is still TN and viewing angles are utter shite. In before "but huehuehue I sit right in front anyway": fuck you, no you don't. Most people sit too close to a 27" panel to not be affected by viewing angles. Most people sit between 50 and 70cm from the monitor, which puts the left and right edges at a 55-ish degree angle. That's already shifting, even on this monitor.
What really makes this a piece of shit is its price though. $800 is just beyond retarded and anyone buying it (sorry prezrezrepzrpepzrpasm) is just ill informed and made a bad decision based on the fact that it has G-Sync. It's just ridiculous that people are willing to pay $800 for this, yet often consider any IPS/VA monitor between 300 and 500 "too expensive". The colour accuracy and contrast on this is equivalent to what Dell has been doing with their Ultrasharp and now even the Performance (P) series for years. A P2714 costs 250. There already are cheaper monitors that are IPS or VA with the same refresh rate too.
People who buy this thing are the same as people that bought a Titan. Not because it's sensible, not because it's great value, but because it's "special".
Has anybody actually tried this monitor in person? Im quite curious to see it
Another review of this monitor:
Here's a quote from the guy:
"If you're running a lower end graphics card that might not be getting your games to 60 FPS you're going to see an immense difference."
Yeah, for that amount of money you're going to see an immense difference if you buy a new high-end graphics card as well.
I'm sure you do like it przerzrerpzrpezprasm, but is it really worth the $800? For less money you can get far superior image quality, same refresh rate (well, 120 Hz), lightstrobing and the only thing you'd not have is G-Sync. Which, as pointed out above, if you have the money for a product such as this, is completely wasted since you clearly also have the money to build a rig that can run 1440p without a problem.
Not only that, the IPS/PLS/VA/MVA panels are cheap as fuck right now. I've seen them as low as 100€ which is pocket change compared to that ASUS RoG monitor.
Honestly, I completely regret my purchase of a 24" TN 144Hz monitor. For that money I could have bought a really nice Dell (IPS) or Benq (MVA) monitor which are 27".
I just came back form Microcenter. I saw the monitor in person...
First of all, G-Sync is fucking awesome. I got to experience it first hand. Anybody who says its a gimmick is talking out of their ass and have never actually seen it in person. I remember when I first purchased a 120hz monitor back in 2010, people on this very forum were telling me the human eye can't notice a difference between 60hz and 120hz glad I never took those posts seriously. The g-sync enabled motion looks pretty epic.
However I was not impressed by the colors of this monitor. I forgot that I have been using a 1080p IPS display on my Sony Vaio Pro 13 ultrabook for the past few weeks. So my eyes are spoiled by the colors and clarity of this Sony panel. When I saw the colors on the ROG monitor, it was a bit disappointing. Maybe the colors needs a bit tweaking, everything was at default.
The physical appearance of the monitor is very sexy. I only got to play with it for a few minutes. I plan to go back there and tweak this monitor to see if the colors improve

lolwut? Anyone saying that to you was a clueless derp and most likely reside in the console section
The human eye can also differentiate terrible colors from accurate colors. Uhm, also, when a single color shifts in the middle of the screen due to 3 degrees eye shift.
