    Quote:

Blood Bowl is a fantasy football video game loosely based on American football, and adapted from the board game of the same name, which was produced by Games Workshop, using the Living Rulebook 5.0’s ruleset.

The game involves two teams of 11 players with teams such as the Humans, Dwarves, Orcs and Chaos - each with their special strengths and weaknesses. The winner of a match is the team that scores the most touchdowns (i.e. gets the ball into the opposition’s end zone), though it is possible to win by violently eliminating the other team's entire roster. The game incorporates both real-time and turn-based strategy elements.

The game's almost knocking on the door and there's no game thread, 'the fuck NFOHump? Razz

I've played the tabletop version only a bit, but anxiously waiting this. Chaos will crush everyone!
Apparently there's also hotseat MP, which is always a plus in my book.

Yes, you missed the beta registration. I didnt but of course I didnt get an invite. The cool thing about the game is it will be a 100% (more or less I guess) copy of the tabletop game.

Download speeds aren't the best but I'm nearly done (About 1.5 GB in size though the install files are compressed.) so I'll give my opinion on it once it's finished installing along with a few screens and such. Smile

Got a bit busy but the game is installed and patched, uses SecuROM activation via key (Unsure what the retail will use, perhaps the same system.) along with a player key (Multiplayer probably.)

Will take a few ingame screens shortly along with some details on gameplay and such, game does support quite a few settings as well so it can be easily configured, uses Gamebryo by the way. (Freedom Force games, LOKI, Dark Age of Camelot, Morrowind, Oblivion Fallout 3 and others.)

EDIT: Did the basic tutorials to familiarize myself with the game mechanics, there's more to this game than I first thought. Smile

First of all it's set up similar to American football but with the Warhammer ruleset (There's even announcers and such going on about the game.), further to this there are many different "units" (Like in a real team I suppose) and even higher end champions, also all of the standard Warhammer races seems to be present (Empire, Ork, Goblin, Skaven, Wood Elf, Lizardman, Chaos and Dwarfs if I remember correctly.) though some have fewer units though those might be stronger.

After that individual "players" have different skills and abilitites that can be learned and improved over time and in some rules (Blitz I think it was called.) you also have "points" that drain as that character competes or get injured, lose them all and that player has to reitre from the game.

You can also use resources before a match to "buy" bonuses or even use bribes (Helps if you play foul by attacking downed opponents and such.) plus you can train your characters though it might fail and then that character can't be used in the match.

Ofcourse you can also design your own team and look by selecting a race and then color and adjust them (Kinda like the "army painter" in the RTS titles.), not much can be adjusted but it's a nice bonus, can also set up rules and such. Smile

EDIT: Quick match. (I lost, need to improve quite a bit as the AI was pretty agressive, medium difficulty.)

that's blood bowel. haha

I can't wait to see this. I hope it's like Mutant League Football or I'll be disappointed. Turn-based football would suck. Well, not as bad as turn-based soccer.

WOOHOO!
Can't wait. Chaos League was awesome Very Happy

For those that're interested, the turn based mode follows the rules of the latest living rulebook faithfully, which is obviously awesome.
How're the announcers? In Chaos League there were bloody amazing Very Happy

For those interested, the living rulebook which this game uses.
Not only does it feature the rules but also a lot of (fairly) hilarious history and anekdotes from the league: http://www.bloodbowlonline.com/LivingRulebook5.pdf

At some point the devs mentioned they'll be adding other races (BB has shitloads) via expansion packs/DLC. I'll stick to Chaos anyway tho - why bother with the ball when you can just crush and destroy your opponent completely? Very Happy

Heh, no wonder that I lost then as my test match was against a Chaos opponent, medium difficulty but their beefier units (Minotaur thing and goat thing.) made short work of most of my forces. (Side I played as had more units but only a few really strong ones to counter such things and my Ogre got swarmed with their weaker units and couldn't really do anything.)

Yeah it helps a lot if you read a bit about the various teams and their usual strengths/weaknesses. GWS offers the official rulebook free on their site http://www.bloodbowlonline.com/LivingRulebook5.pdf , and most of it directly applies to the video game as well, since they've followed the ruleset so faithfully (lots of humorous stuff there as well, not a dry read at all).

Really I wouldn't try going head to head against a Chaos team - try and stay out of their way and utilize your faster units to move the ball. Razz

Every race has their clear strengths and weaknesses. Don't expect to go toe to toe against Chaos or Orcs with your Dark Elves.

Easiest to start with is probably Dwarves. They litterally don't care about the ball. Orcs at least have a bit of passing (sort of) and their Big Guy/Stunty combo can be fun as well. (Big guys (Trolls for Orcs iirc can pass Goblins while they carry the ball) Tho I guess the rush is still their best bet. Surround your ball carrier with Black Orcs and just plow your way to the endzone Very Happy

Granted it's personal preference, but dwarves are veeeery slow - orcs basically have the same, beginner-friendly advantages but they're at least a bit faster. Humans can be the obvious choice for many I guess, but since they're the all-rounders with no real specific strengths, learning the game might be a easier with the orcs (or dorfs).

That was my point indeed. Managing the more gracefull teams like elves and scaven is a lot harder because you generally don't want them in a fight. Which, ofcourse, can be a lot of fun as well Very Happy

I agree on the dwarves tho. They're basically steamrollers. Slow but you won't be stopping them any time soon Wink

Which reminds me, their secret weapon: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Wm7KwNRlNWc/Ri8iMyQPt_I/AAAAAAAAAGE/be8-ckT0t6A/s1600-h/DSC04074.JPG

Why is it that in every game with a huge Ogre, Titan (or what ever is much larger than you) that they move reeeaallllyyy slow ???

Its like saying YOU move really slow motion when your stomping the shit out of some bug...

IS this game Turn Base ??? OR the entire team moves at the same time kicking butt ???

Because Ogres are massive, bulky and clumsy. They also weigh quite a bit. Count all those factors, and they'd have a hard time running.

Generally the stronger the unit, the slower. Also, slower units are generally less good with the ball.

There's 2 modes. Turn based mode which is a faithfull adaptation of previously mentioned Living Rulebook v5. There's also a real time mode which, ofcourse, deviatees a bit from it. It also allows armour customisation which adds to stats and such.
