Hi Guys, I am just after some advice on what to upgrade in my machine as I have a bit of cash to burn and am looking at a new GFX card, maybe a 260 GTX.

I currently have a Nforce 5 Mobo fitted with an AMD X2 6400+, Some Nice corsair MX2 (Or Whatever It's called) 4-4-4-12 800mhz memory and a pair of 8800 GT's.

As I already said I was thinking of buying a GTX 260 to replace one of my cards and use one of the old GT's for a physx board. What I am wondering is will I see any real benifit replacing my existing GT's with this card or will my CPU 3.4 GHZ and the rest of my system be a bottleneck for it?

I would like to upgrade my CPU+mobo+Memory eventually so i'm looking at this as a future investment but one that will hopefully give me a short term boost in performance too, I am just unsure if it will yield me any real benifit over my current set of cards.

Dual 8800gt are pretty powerful, I don't think it's worth the gfx card upgrade atm. Even though a GTX260 is excellent value/money ratio.

You should save up money for a full upgrade when the time is right Very Happy
Also, if you don't have 4gb memory, then upgrade that.

Yeah Am running 4 gig of memory. Plus I think the SLI option I went for was a mistake due to the usual SLI issues so if this sungle card matches the performance and is stable e.g no micro stutter or surpasses it I will be happy.

sell 8800gt's and get 260, it will be more energy efficient, plus u don't have to worry about sli compatibility with some games
after all not many games support sli/crossfire anyway

But will it outperform the GT's on my current rig? I'm not too arsed about energy efficency.

Save your money, wait for the next generation of cards coming out Q4 of this year, then get a whole new rig. Your CPU is a bottle neck for the 260.
