Now that's a good price for this game.

I went to buy it and usual shit. 5 dollars for you, 5 euros for me, yeah right Valve.
Games have always been more expensive in Europe so stop whining about it.

WTF like it's normal...

If you go to an actual shop here in aus you're looking at paying AU$89.95 (51 euros) or AU$99.95 (57 euros) for a new release game.

Been a while but I seem to remember it was the same back in the UK too, with everything game / movie / music wise over priced.

Taking Prototype as a example (Price has been lowered by the way, 49 now instead of 59) it would cost roughly 530 SEK via Steam compared to 470 via a retail store, not really a huge difference anymore but it's still a bit more expensive.

I can understand Steam or rather Valve and other publishers using it trying to avoid conflicts between stores by undercutting prices but it should be priced similarly instead of above retail price.

Had the price been the same between US and EU then it would have cost roughly 370 SEK so having it a bit more expensive is actually somewhat understandable (Games are more expensive here.) albeit it's still a bit off compared to normal prices here.

If you were to go to a store here, prices vary between 35-50. Steam goes for 50, the maximum AND their prices don't drop. Most stores start dropping their prices after a month. There's just very few benefits to Steam if they keep up those prices.

Prices don't drop? I have gotten some pretty damned good deals through steam.

I know this isn't what you're saying here, Beckman, but a lot of people seem to blame Valve for any decisions the publishers who use Steam make. People should remember that it's the publishers, not Valve, who set the prices and regions for their games on Steam.

Valve is getting a lot of hate these days...

Ah I meant it more along the lines of that Valve is the guys behind the Steam platform not that they affect prices much (Unless it's their own titles.) aside from perhaps a slight fee for the bandwith and "publishing" costs of letting other devs use the system?

I'm not really certain on how these things work, prices have been OK'ish albeit some titles are a bit overpriced compared to a retail copy and the original price of 59.90 Euro (Prototype) was pretty hefty.

This "slight fee" is a big chunk from the total price. Valve DO set the price for games - CD Projekt said Valve had selected the price for Witcher for example. The actual fee Valve get depends on the deal. It's percentage based and at least 20%. I heard that one developer lost 35% to Valve.

Actually, American law prevents suppliers from controlling retailer's prices.

Looked at with Steam/Valve in mind, that's a bit... funny. Since Steam is both a distribution and end-user-centred retailer, how does American law fit around that? Or am I misunderstanding things?

Wow. Anyone know if X-COM 1 and 2 are updated to work fine with new hardware or are we better off to run them with dosbox than in steam?

I have the complete X-COM series on steam and they're running without problems (at least for me, but then again, is my system considered "new" hardware or do you mean "newer than what was availabe at the time of release"?)

I've heard that Doom and other D.O.S. games from ID on Steam are distributed with Dosbox Laughing

Also, screw 2K Games and ATARI. Their games are not available on my territory... I missed the Bioshock and Rockstar Weekend Deals because I wasn't able to buy them

they are yes, just like good old games does it. I've heard horror stories about buying these games from steam though. GOG actually does it very well to where you just run the game and don't have to fiddle with shit.

wow for the pack.not wow for the sale, it is actually only $6 off.. nothing too crazy. The pack itself is a heck of a deal to start with though. If it had jade empire I might have bought this.. I already have CIV4 and bioshock and I've played most of the rest of them.. too bad.

I didn't notice colonization the first time around.. I already had bioshock on my steam..and I thought I'd get a gift copy but I didn't. Greedy sods.

They are crazy at Steam.

I see now price of Anno 1404 in Steam shop - 49,99 euro.

On polish shop Ultima.pl i see price - 54,90 zł (about 12,50 euro)

1 euro = 4,36 zł

It's stupid. Great job steam
