Sorry if this has been asked before, but to someone new to Anno but not new to strategy/city games, what's the best place to start? Continuous Play or Campaign?

If you don't have any saves Continuous Play will just start a new Campaign.

Razor crack is not working for me too. It freezes 2 seconds after I launch the game.

Well I don't think where it would come from. Maybe that's because I just applied the crack to a non-Razor iso ?

Did you run automatic graphics configuration tool before starting the game?

No. Continuous Play gets you to the "sandbox" mode gameplay. Atleast it did for me the first time I started the game.
But to answer the first question. If you never played any anno game before campaign is the right way to go as the campaign is mostly a long tutorial anyways.

No. I had a game crash for the first time because I skipped that. I thought it might be the same for you which is not the case so never mind.

hmm when i try to start the game with the razor crack, nothing happens ( i ran automatic graphic configuration)
the crash log says: 8.07.2009 15:49:40] StackTrace (ThreadID 1796, BuildInfo v1.00.1762, LogFile 0):
any idea?

Well I actually waited 5 minutes and the game finally launched "properly". There are still huge problems with framerate. For instance it the image freezes when the UI is meant to appear for about 15 seconds (but the music goes on).
I'll wait for a proper crack.

Did you try the old crack as well? It seems like a computer problem rather than the crack. If the old crack works (except for the UI slowdown), then it really is the razor crack.

im stuck in chapter 3 (i think) where you build harbor and stuff for guy forcas on a small islan, well problem is, i dont have any mission left to do and dont get any (already repopulated the inglebeck town etc. uncovered all of the map , nothing ...
ok figured it out, you have to build a iron smelter and a tool shop on the monastry island ... that will trigger next mission ...

The game is running fine but i cant figure out how to get stone, tried building the stoneworkers building next to the rocky cliff areas but it always says it can't do any work until it's near stone deposits.

Then build next to stone depodists. Look for spinning mine carts. Hover the mouse over it and if it's stone, then you know you're in the right place.

Wifey saw me playing this game yesterday and now she's hooked. She was a big fan of Caesar 3 and Zeus back in the day, and her eyes absolutely lit up when she saw this game. Only problem is neither her pc nor her laptop can handle the game. So either I let her play on mine or have to upgrade her pc($$$)!!!

Does any one here know what the beatification stuff does? Like fountains and plants.
They should be required for some houses to make it to a higher tire or make the ppl who live there pay more in tax or whatever.
Or is it only to make it look good? I mean most of the stuff cost ALOT of money for nothing more than looking nice? Seems kinda werid ?

If you used the old crack, have you tried a fresh install of the game and then using the RZR crack?

You need a stoneman's hut , and a small market house to gain territory control , then place the stoneman's house as close as possible to the stone mine and you're done ./

Yes, I did a fresh install (the first one actually) and put Razor's crack straightahead.
Didn't try with the old crack though.

It runs a hell of a lot better using the RZR crack. With the old crack I had really bad stuttering (didn't check the FPS).

After you gave that gay guy the iron he wants 15 tools. However I cannot complete that quest and its a main quest, I have the tools on my trade boat and when I try to give them to him his face comes up but he doesn't say anything and no dialog to give the items either.
Bug or a problem with the crack? Don't want to restart the misson, I've played like 2-3 hours on it.  |

Finally, I tried out the game. So far so good. However, I do have some minor slowdowns and stuttering! My cfg is the following: Phenom II X4 905e 2,5GHz, 4GB Kingstone HyperX 1600MHz, ATi HD4870 512MB. In the game everything is on the highest settings, 8xAF, 4xAA, 1440x900, transparency ON. With these settings I get around 50-60FPS when the camera is close to the map, when it isn't I get around 35-40FPS over Cathedral City. What annoys me is the stuttering/lagging... it feels like I didn't have enough RAM... or I don't quite know it is a bit strange... and there's still 5FPS difference if I turn off the UI. I wonder if that's all the same to you guys?

Silky smooth here when maxed out, never drops below 30fps (usually 50-60fps).
