Actually in the latest patch they did put an option in to scale the crosshair yourself and also choose its color. Believe it or not you will find it in "options" *rolls eyes*. It seems you have to set it each time you play though.

You'll also notice once a bomb is planted the round time will disappear... for the rest of the map and if I'm not mistaken until you rejoin the server. I like how they miss such an obvious bug before they release the patch. They need to quite fixing what is working fine and give us some new fuckin stuff already.

The crosshair works fine for me, and if the roundtime dissapears and doesn't come back when the round is restarted the server just needs to be updated.

Yea, I found out why the crosshair wasn't saving. I have my config set to "read only". So everytime I set it in game and then shut down steam all changes were erased. It's all set now.

I've also noticed since last update alot of servers I go to after map changes have ridiculous hang time after the map starts to the point where everyone gets the connection warning then sometimes it's fine and in some cases it does several more equally long hangs. Any ideas on what that is about?

Although I didnt see a great need in steams release now that its become the standard I guess I can accept it. Ive had my fair share of issues with the software, but now Im quite happy to use it, it makes things easier and with its wide spread standarisation and self updating I no longer have to find out after not playing CS for a month that Im 76 patches behind and I have to DL 400mb's of exe files Smile..

Valve uses VAC. and its obviously not good but its true that if you do know of a hack u can send it in and they'l reprogramme it inti VAC and stop the scripts. Also If you use CD then its pretty safe too and finally Blacklists can be found on loadsa sebsites and VAC will be teamin up with the best soon so every server will have it already. sometimes getting it blacklisted though u do need some good evidence but if its really happen u only need a 30 sec demo and any1 should be able tell.

The only reason I hate steam is becausit's SLOOOOOOW! Disgustingly slow.

Every single function on the thing takes forever
to process....Logging in, retrieving password, getting validated, etc etc.

Are you sure it's not your connection? Cos here takes like 10 seconds from clicking steam icon to being in game.

Steam has had some problems with NetLimiter, I used to have a lot of problems with Steam, but once I uninstalled NetLimiter, the problems were gone. And no, there were no limits for Steam in NetLimiter, it was just a weird problem.

steam is slow sometimes, with downloading patches, and it's buggy.
It doesnt work if you got your system time set wrong, really weird.

but those are all minor problems. The most crappy thing is that the friends list is fuckin unreliable.
30% of the time it's down for maintenance, 30% of the time it just doesnt work, and the other 40% it is up. But even when it's up it doesnt update properly and you and your friends must go offline and online in it all the time so it gets that you're in a game.

Half-Life 2, Source Engine, Source Dedicated Server Update Released
January 10, 2005, 3:13 pm ยท Alfred Reynolds
Half-Life 2, Source Engine and Source Dedicated Server updates are available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Source Engine

* Improved the performance of writing out save games. This will reduce the pause when you pass over an autosave trigger in Half-Life 2, or when you press the quicksave button
* Improved the performance of writing out the thumbnail image for save games. This will also reduce the pause when passing over an autosave trigger or pressing the quicksave button
* Increased cache memory usage for machines that have greater than 512MB of physical memory. This will reduce hitching due to cache thrashing.
* Optimized the sound cache manager, which will reduce hitching as a result of sound cache thrashing
* Minor optimization to the world renderer and world collision
* Minor optimization to the way that asynchronous sound files are loaded
* Optimized the way that sounds were loaded that are trigged by acting sequences
* Optimization to reduced the number of times model sequences are iterated on per frame
* Fixed rcon packet bug that was accepting negative packet lengths
* Fixed rcon server failing on server restart

Half-Life 2

* Weapon script files are preloaded at startup, instead of when they are accessed. This will reduce some hitches while playing Half-Life 2

Linux Server

* Added "-pidfile" command line argument to output a pid file on startup

Condition Zero

* Fixed "Your server is out of date Please update and restart" error

i think the main issues of the autosave triggers have been applied so there's no reason for half of the HL2 hating that goes around. Smile

WoN.net was never shoved down your throat. You didn't have to activate your games through WoN. If you were a loser and couldn't google or ask a friend for some decent servers, you deserved to have the shittiness of Won dumped on you.

I'm disgusted with Steam... it's the dumbest system ever concieved.

The idea was simple: Make a program that would launch all games, preserve all mods, serve as a central server database, and allow for some communication between users.

They COULD have made it work. They COULD have made it great.

Then again, they COULD have made the HL2 engine more than a big, pretty physics toy.

They COULD have fired Gabe "Lardass" Newell

They COULD have given the development of their cornerstone program to some more people (it was developed by 2 guys)

They COULD have not ended the game in a big, horribly pixellated mushroom cloud.

They didn't.

Therefore Valve sucks. When a company and/or their product sucks, capitallism gives consumers the right to tell the company to shove it. Which is precisely my planned course of action.

And Gabe, if you're reading: TREADMILL, you lardass. TREADMILL != Krispy Kreme.

We're talking retail version here, not emulated warez scene stuff.

I know Source is good for modding. I wasn't attacking anything. Razz

Simply isn't true. You want it to be true, but it isn't.

I think the problem is between the chair and the monitor. Wink

I don't buy games where the developer makes you call mommy each and every time to play.

CD-checks are also on this list.

A Unique CD-Key is fine. Beyond that is crap.
