No regrets anyway

You should be proud to support games that you like, not remorseful that you didn't wait to pirate it. Smile

That's why i said "No regrets" Wink

I know. I was trying to agree with you, basically. Perhaps I worded it poorly. Smile

loving it so far... but is there any way to skip ahead of a line of dialogue? i'm pretty impatient once i've read what a character has to say before he has had time to finish saying it.

the only alternative i see is pressing backspace which skips through the entire cutscene/dialogue piece which isn't what i want.

other than that great game as it had always been and definitely worth the money.

For me the game feels kinda cheap. Like they pasted on new gfx without any real effort. Guybrush walks way to fast, makes me feel like im playing a flash game almost.

He moves at the same speed as in the original, it's just that, due the the higher resolution, the movement of the sprite across the screen is smother now.

I believe in the original LucasArts adventures you could press "." to skip lines of dialogue...

Right-clicking will skip dialogue bits.

Great game, i totally missed it for some reason (a friend notified me luckily). Has there been word on how often they will release episodes?

Monthly.

This thread could get confusing, the way it switches back-and-forth from Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, to Tales of Monkey Island, without warning...

In Tales of Monkey Island you can indeed right click to skip a sentence. Maybe you guys are talking about the remake of the original?

The remake is kinda cheap. I mean...what's so special in this special edition? They didnt even improve animation. People barely animated at all, pirates dont open their mouths when they talk. WTF is this crap? Did they see Runaway? Broken Sword?

Uh...they redrew everything, redid the music, and finally recorded voices, that's what's "special."

It's animated exactly like it was in the original; same number of frames, etc. They kept the animation the same, so that it could easily switch from classic to updated mode, without skipping a beat.

If they added more frames of animation, not only would it probably have cost more, but it would not be accurate and compatible with the classic version.

Exactly. That's why its bad. What kind of remake is that if they barely improved original game? If i wanted to play original game with slightly improved graphics, i would play it via ScummVM or DosBox using one of those graphics filters to improve graphics. Music was great anyway. There is CD version of the original MI game with HQ soundtrack. Voices? Yeah, that's fine, thank you. But looks like that is all they can offer

I don't think they set out to "improve" SOMI, because they probably realized that that is not possible. Razz They just set out to "redo" it, which is not necessarily the same thing as "improving" it.

Seriously, how is is that redrawing the entire game at 1080p native resolution not good enough for you? How much further can they go?

No, they didn't give Guybrush a 100 frame walk animation. Does he really need it? No.

Why is it not possible? That's BS. Original game is 20y old, it has alot of things which can be improved. Graphics, sound, animation, more dialog options, easter eggs for fans (why not). Who needs another 1:1 copy of the old game?

Fuck yes, cause he moves like he is some kind of robot or alien thing

In conclusion. This Monkey Island remake sucks monkey balls imo. It's sooo cheap
Ps. Voice acting is good

You know, i liked Tomb Raider Anniversary remake. They changed so much but you still feel like you are playing the original TR, just much more fun

WTF? Okay, I'm pretty sure that you're just trying to troll, but I'll indulge you.

They did redo the graphics, they did redo the sound, and they did add new easter eggs. Not that you care. All you can do is sit there and bitch about the fact that there aren't additional frames of animation.

More dialogue options is a retarded idea. They'd have to rewrite the damn game to accommodate that, and if they even tried, the only response they'd get would be fans complaining that the new writing isn't as good as the original, or something.

Uh huh. It's hard to take you seriously, when you say that they could have improved the "Graphics, sound, animation, more dialog options, easter eggs for fans," in light of the fact that they did redo all of those things (aside from dialog and animation).

These kind of games were a lot of fun in the 80's and early 90's but for me their time is over, just like pac-man or space invaders.

The gameplay is as lacking as always in adventure games (linear like a comic book, just with added hassle to get to the next page). The old pixelated artwork has a lot of charm due to nostalgia, the new artwork doesnt grab me at all, looks like an average cartoon from cartoon network but with worse animations.

These old adventure games has some charming stories that could work really well as a movie instead, unlike adventure games that medium isnt dead and works really well.

There's a reason this genre died, let it rest in peace.

You stopped liking them too, you're just not aware of it, yet. Razz

No, i'm just saying i rather see the genre die completely or progress into something better. There has been a few tries like Indigo Prophecy, but it's still too linear and too much like a movie (with added hassle).

Does anyone really think the _gameplay_ is any good in adventure games? I mean seriously? I can get that you can enjoy the story, but the gameplay, meh..

by gameplay i take you mean solving puzzles. in that case, yeah, i found some awesome puzzles that actually made me happy when i solved them. the first episode of tales, the wallace and gromit episodes, the 2nd samnmax season, they all had puzzles that put a smile on my face.
and since we're talking about adventures, i'm considering dialogue as part of the gameplay too. samnmax s2 (i haven't played the 1st) had very funny lines, just like so blonde and ben there, dan that.

so yeah, i'm pretty satisfied with adventures lately Smile sure, there's also crap like still life 2 and whatnot, but that doesn't mean the whole genre is flawed.

Dialogue isnt a part of gameplay since it doesnt alter anything (usually). And its not like it can compete with movies or books anyways.

If you enjoy one-sided, often illogical puzzles, then sure! Adventure games will rock your world!

..and so would probably this;
