Gawd people THIS IS ENSEMBLE STUDIOS! They represent QUALITY! Their netcode for AoM and AoM: Titans was itself insane (had many a 5 human vs 2-3 Titan AIs and it was unreal how the game kept itself together!!) + they have an amazing track record. If they can pull if off, like Blizzard, these guys can!
And the Gfx! Drooll! Yes its over-"bloomed" and looks too shiny/hazy but heck.. I'm sure it'll be an option to turn on/off. Looking sooo forward to this! ANYONE WHO IS AN RTS CONNISSEUR WILL BE ANTICIPATING THIS ONE!

I like RTS games that take gameplay chances which offer incredible replayability. Granted, AoE3 won't likely offer that but I did like AoM and AoM: Titans and AoE3 should take the genre to new heights. I do hope Ensemble takes some chances and does more to evolve the genre.

- New, localized ragdoll effects (for example, you can get a dead arm if you get shot in the shoulder) and bone level blending of key-framed animation with physics.
- Classic ragdoll effects blended from key-framed animation sequences for more realistic secondary motion (for example, in death scenes) for your characters. Effects for multiple character types, we support whatever number of limbs, tentacles or antennae your imagination demands
- Breakable constraints for detachable limbs, so you can get as gory as you like
- Core vehicle physics system and tuned car wheel friction model
- Game specific modules for transmission, engine, suspension, gameplay, aerodynamics, steering
- Breakable constraints for post-crash car debris
- Havok's rigid body dynamics allow you to inject environmental physics into your game to create an immersive experience for the user.
We are the creators of Time, the victims of Time, and the killers of Time. Time is timeless. You are the clock.

damn... why don't they do a fps with that engine, it's got the features it needs! or imagine a aom3 mod where you play as one of the soldiers in the massive battles they announced (they said that the pop limit would be rised quite hogh for more massive battles)

/me takes of the hat and bows to Ensemble studios .
Ok, so now the game is officially announced. Very great news.
Gamershell wrote: | Microsoft Game Studios and Ensemble Studios sent over a press release announcing Age of Empires III, the RTS game the game unveiled in October 2004 (story) and confirmed yesterday (story). The latest installment of the series picks up where Age of Empires II: Age of Kings left off, placing gamers in the position of a European power determined to explore, colonize and conquer the New World. This time period features stunning scenes, from towering European cathedrals to courageous tribes of Native Americans, and spectacular combat with Industrial Age units like rifled infantry, cavalry and tall ships bristling with cannons. The game will contain new game-play elements, including the concept of a “Home City,“ new civilizations, units, technologies and an immersive new single-player campaign that will span three generations. One of the most interesting additions is the Havok physics engine, so you will see rag-doll effects on bodies or buildings and other objects on the map behaving naturally in different situations. |
The screens can be found here too: http://www.gamershell.com/pc/age_of_empires_3/screenshots.html
BTW, the engine reminds me of The elder scrolls 4 somehow...

i just have to say after looking at that screenshot......godDAMN thats one goodlooking rts. and to whoever said that aoe3 is still 2d, well looking at those screenies and saying that you gotta be smoking some serious crack.
now as long as the gameplay is as addictive and immersive as the other games in the series, this game should knock every other rts on its ass. oh and hopefully ill have a rig able to play it decently when it comes out. unless they do some serious optimizing, this would absolutely destroy my current setup with all that complexity on screen.

Yes, I was also hoping for a sooner release, at least for summer.
BTW, Am I freaking out or has one page of this thread disappeared?

Its pretty obvious that its gonna be AT LEAST a year before we can finally play this game. Maybe they'll be really nice and hook us up with a demo a few months before the release date. Really looking forward to this one. Looking at the screens and knowing how the AoE games play, this has to be good. Who knows, maybe it'll finally be the starcraft killer we've all been waiting for.
And why are people still arguing whether or not its 3d? Someone already quoted a statement saying AoE3 uses an improved version of the AoM 3d engine. If this game isn't 3d then it'll be hilarious to see how they do these kinds of things in 2d.

Release date is acceptable considering the calibre of this release. I mean.. look at the game - looks brillant! Its Ensemble quality too! Give em time to get it out. Ensemble is known for releasing ~late Sept anyway.

Is Troy going to be in it? I read something on IGN about it? Man if it's just going to be industrial age and people with gay guns then i am really disappointed.

How can RedAlert3 make Fall'05 when there aren't any screenies yet? Plus we're talking EA here - the mega supercorp dumbnuts they are. At least Ensemble isn't tarnished/corrupted by being a superlarge company. They produce results and support the product (for good measure) WITHOUT breaking it *cough* ZeroHour *cough* >>Gaggg!!!< >ThunK!>
