I kno rite? I thought they were making a game that would get boring after the first 5-hour playthrough, aka a "real" game.

Indeed, kudo's to the devs for actually making a truly randomly generated world.
People who feel that it's not a true game because of that, well this was probably not intended for them.

Hopefully this will be better than Hellgate London. At least it's not set in 200 miles of sewers.

Defiantly doesn't work for me, they think that by generating they will extend the replay but that's crap because it usually doesn't work very well, I played threw NOLF and HL 12 times each and those games are very scripted but still they have replay value because the missions and levels are that good, I would rather have real missions for SH3 than 'dynamic campaign' which is the same as generated quests, maybe you get an infinite number of missions on paper but in reality all you get is one mission that repeats itself and that one is as good as zero because it's a bad one.

And it's one thing to have a generated world but generated quests, I will give you a word right here: repetitive as FC2 and that's repetitive.

Wait, so you claim that Far Cry 2 is repetitive, and then you play through two utterly linear games twelve times, which is about as repetitive as it gets. Sounds to me like you don't know what you want.

If the gameplay is good enough it doesn't matter how repetitive it gets, as long as there is some minor variation.

That's what I said Rolling Eyes I used the two games as an example to say if the levels are good enough the game will have replay value, so there is no need for RGQ.

Of course they never are good enough with random generated quests, usually they are bad enough so you get bored after the first mission because all the other missions are the same after that, what part is unclear to you?

The part where you assume that just because some parts of the game are randomly generated that means there there will be no variation between missions. The amount of variable modifiers and of course different variable for different mission hubs will mean the opposite is true.

I'd like to know what games with randomly generated content you've played to be so ignorant of the whole process. It's the gameplay that's more important in this case, and for some reason you seem to have totally misunderstood my post, the point being gameplay does not equal level design.

I'm talking about myself I DON'T like RGQ if you do that's your problem, I prefer missions/quests like in Mafia, Oblivion, BG or, if you want sandbox, GTA: SA, GTA4, real missions not generated on the spot.

And I can't criticize the missions for this game as I haven't played it yet, maybe the whole thing will work who knows but I seriously doubt it.

Missions have a lot to do with gameplay imo otherwise FC2 would actually be a good game, it has two missions only the location randomly changes, kill someone or convoy in top left corner of the map, then kill them in bottom right corner of the map, fun Rolling Eyes if it had some real missions I would amp the score by 50.

And I really, really, hate random generated items in some arpg's and rpg's like Oblivion, you kill a bunch of high level monsters, walk two miles in underground caves just to open a chest at the end which randomly generated a very crappy item for me, this huge annoyance is fixed by OOO thankfully but it takes a lot of work to do it, much more work than the programmers did.

This is common practice in games like Sacred which I hate so much, give me real quests, fixated items and enemies that don't level up with me but are fixed at one level as well, the random generated ANYTHING just doesn't work for me and I see it as being lazy, they don't have to bother with missions, voices, placing the right items at the right locations, where to put high level monsters and where do low level monsters go etc.

Borderlands is an open world first person shooter from Gearbox Software and 2K Games and since its original conception has changed somewhat and hopefully for the better with the addition of cell shaded graphics. Linear FPS games have been around since the dawn of console time and then we moved to multi player online games where not only was the attraction shooting at another gamer sat somewhere around the world but also the randomness of the game play. Borderlands now brings that randomness a stage further in the FPS genre and with it brings in elements of RPG and Co-op fighting.

Players can choose from one of four characters each with their own unique character class and special abilities and in either a competative or co-operative game take them characters and level up through experience just like any other, so with 4 player co-op players can assist each other to fight the good fight. The beauty of Borderlands though is its random game play element, with over 100 enemies players will experience random battles, missions and situations each with their own random rewards and dare I say it but its a little bit World of Warcaft meets FPS in a Mad Max world. There are even Boss enemies which are aptly titled Badasses in which your going to need to call on other members of your party to defeat them and Borderlands allows for this through its drop in drop out online gaming mode.

Try counting the word 'random' in these two passages.

Wonder if the guns have any modding/customizing options at all, or are you just going to have to rely on your luck to get the weapon you want. I mean sure, it'll be fun to get a sniper rifle without a scope that's chambered for shotgun rounds, but the charm's bound to wear off after a while and then you just want the most lethal guns imaginable.

New trailer is fucking epic. Holy shit.

Nice to see an FPS that looks tough and all, but still manages to not take itself too damned seriously.

seriously, how can be epic, the gfx look like from 2000, the damage numbers look like pasted and so out of context. If that trailer shows the best the game has to offer, well im not impressed at all. Looks like another hellsgate london failure to me.
