Thanks, I just picked up my key. I'm going to try this and see how it compares to HoN.
It says there's 1100 keys left to claim and looks like they're going fast.
*Edit* Now 900 keys left.

I find the GFX a bit to cartoony in this. Overall HoN is much much more polished atm. Hopefully LoL will catch up.

When I try to login I get this message:
"The beta servers are currently closed to the public. If you have a private beta key, please enter it below."
So I put the beta key in and it says:
"Either an invalid beta key has been entered or the beta key has already been activated. Please try again with a different beta key."
Is this a common problem?

Servers up, starting to play. Played DOTA and Demigod for a year, so I have a tad of interest in these kinds of games. I despise their communities tho.

Alright, so I've played 5 games so far, and am very very impressed with the game. First off, a lot of you guys are probably put off by the kiddie graphics. Don't be. I absolutely abhor cartoon graphics, anime, and everything to do with this style of art, but that doesn't stop me from being impressed with the graphics in this game. They're fluid, they're nice, everything looks like it belongs there, no matter how outlandish it may see. Looking at screenshots isn't going to give you a feel for this game; you need to actually play it to understand.
Matchmaking is superb. It is done through an external community program that handles chat, friends, forums and everything as well. The great thing about keeping the matchmaking external is that you can do other stuff (browse teh nfohumpz) while waiting for a match to be arranged. Not that it takes long. I get in on a 5v5 on average in 20 seconds. Most I've waited is 1 minute. That's damn impressive.
The networking is godlike. I've played 5 games and haven't had a single hiccup so far. Not one. My latency with the server is 16.5, and it's just smooth sailing. Very pleasant to play; have never had an issue where someone can't connect.
Performance is a non-issue due to the primitive graphics. However, like I said the graphics are very well implemented so despite the fact that they look so simple, they work.
The GUI of the matchmaking program and ingame is superb. Little clutter, never any confusion; if you're familiar with DOTA, you'll adapt in 30 seconds. They've added additional features to the shops and heroes, but it's all drawn out so well that a 5 year old could understand them. There is tutorial because there is no need for one; everything is well labeled and organized, just take 20 seconds to familiarize yourself with the GUI and that's it.
Gameplay is fun as hell, much more intense and action packed than Demigod or any other DOTA clone. In fact, they've captured the gameplay of DOTA perfectly, with the early game harass ebb and flow, mid game ganking, late game pushes. It's all there, the tried and tested DOTA formula works great in this game. The maps are very similar to DOTA, as are towers, barracks, item shops, jungles, neutrals.... basically, seems like the devs said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and just made their game that way.
Balance so far seems to be a non-issue, tho I expect the DOTA freaks are having paingasms at some of the combos out there. Look, I don't know how many heroes there are out there (uh, 25? random guess), but in the 5 games so far I've seen no one obviously OP. If he is, the other team always has the option to gank up on him, so I guess ganking is the big equalizer. Each hero has 4 spells just like in DOTA, levelling is the same as in DOTA. Same applies to items; items can be combined, there are 6? slots (I think). Combos are shown in the shop, VERY clearly so that even the noobs can figure out how to combo their items.
That's all I can think of for now. Game is a perfect DOTA clone with ranking and all. Phluxed ought to love it HIGHLY recommended that anyone take a look if he manages to get ahold a beta key.

The only issue I can think of is hacking. Now that the game is standalone from WC3, people better hope it's as hackproof as WC3. In WC3 you had maphack, and that's it. This being a standalone game people might figure out some new crazy hacks like inf hp, mana, etc... it all depends on how well the devs code the game. Cross your fingers and pray, because a badly coded game and an active hacking community are the ruin of highly competitive games such as this one.
Oh, and some of the voices are really fucking annoying. I just play Rammstein in the background to compensate for that.
Finally: game could use VOIP support.

I been in the beta for quite some time now and I think LoL is great. Anyone that liked demigod but thought it lacked depth of chars/items like dota but thought denying sucked will love this.
The Map is dota (why fix something that isn't broke) I think they doing more maps though. You can select summer or a winter map atm.
Recently they been testing the matchmaking system and even in closed beta you get a game within seconds.
I personally think the GFX are great in this and I think its a lot less zoomed in than HoN is which annoys me in HoN because you seem to play from the Mini-Map 99% of the game.
There are still a few things it needs to balance like Clairvoyance skill which can basically make a team see almost the entire map if they do it right but they talking about it.
The Ui and Menu is damm polished so is HoN so that about even I guess. I do agree that VoiP needs to be put in game.
To sum this game up its not as crazy as dota but far more complex than demigod.
I personally will be playing this over HoN anytime.

God damnit. I really wanted in bad - I already got a beta accepted mail earlier, but no key was attached and there was no way for me to log in. Since then I've been hyping this game up for myself.

For me. Deffo worse than HoN. But LoL is atleast somewhat new, where HoN is a direct copy of Dota. I think everything is better in HoN, the gfx, the sound, the interface, the lobby.
But since LoL is only open in weekends, it would seem it is still quite early beta. So after some polish i think it will be good. I will play it at release.

I am too late... *sigh*. I didn't check the forums for one day and wooosh 3000 keys are gone in a flash.
Would appreciate if someone has an extra key they don't use though. :-/
I was eager to get into beta but then I read about game coming in september and that it's free 2 play. So meh w/e. Just wanted it so I can to compare it to HoN/DoTA/Demigod.

Game fucking sucks. It is going to cost over 200 dollars to purchase all 40 champs individually. You need to grind for 1000s of hours to earn runes to be competitive.
This is dota for MMO retards

Actually, if you don't pay for them you have to grind 1000s of hours.

Umm, no, I ground up to 30 playing for a month an hour or two a day. I don't know where you came up with that ridiculous number.

All champions are obviously free during beta since they are testing the game. Im sure the person above talks about when the game is released and champions will be limited.

No, they specifically said all content will be free except skins. The only thing is the free champions will be rotated once a week, but you will still be able to play all champions for free. As for the runes system, I don't think anyone knows what that's going to be like, but I seriously doubt it will take you a 1000 hours to get the runes you want.
