The Haunted requires UT3 Patch 2.0
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU CREATE A SEPERATE INGAME PROFILE FOR THE HAUNTED.
OTHERWISE IT WILL OVERRIDE YOUR UT3 SETTINGS AND KEYBINDINGS.
Remove the old haunted version from the UTGame\published\CookedPC folder
and delete the UtHauntedGame.ini from UtGame\config
Extract the contents of the rar file into your Documents\MyGames\Unreal Tournament 3 folder
Now you can launch the haunted or the editor with the shortcuts.
The shortcuts will try to find your UT3.exe first.
Right click -> properties to locate it manually.
See the troubleshooting section if the shortcut does not work at all. |
It's a pretty good mod, but not better than L4D. Also no one plays it online.

I average 45 fps on wireless. Normally I rank tops on my team. This is a joy compared to GTA4 in fps. No slowdowns. No issues hitting anyone. In fact I normally get that 'rage' mode when your character becomes huge and full of health..love it..

I still cant get Haunted to run. Installed v2 first, then patch 201. Created shortcut target path as: E:\!GAMES\UT3\Binaries\UT3.exe -mod=H:\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\HauntedGame -solomod
It seems its still not loading the haunted files. Can anyone confirm if this target path is accurate?

This game's community is so boring. All DM, TDM, CTF servers are basically running the same 2-3 maps. There are so many fun and beautifully rendered maps, but no... deck, deck deck and more deck.
Warfare situation is slightly better, but still haven't managed to play like half of warfare maps online. No wonder so few play this game.

True, but I find this a general problem with all the competitive shooters (like UT, Quake, etc). People perfect their gameplay on one map and are lazy to do it on others, so they stick to the same one over and over. I've played against people that know certain maps inside out, beating me every time, but then when we play on unknown to them maps, they basically lose almost all capabilities and I beat them (all maps were unknown to me). It actually pretty much amazed me when it happened for the first few times (I'm not that much of an online player so didn't have much experience with such occurrences), but it happens a lot, so I know to stay away from the most popular maps in order to have a chance, because on the face, deck, etc maps, people know every polygon of them and it's not fun for me.
Also, I much prefer the bigger gametypes, like Warfare and VCTF to the more yawn-regular modes, like DM, TDM and CTF, and from my experience they are much more varied in MP in UT3, because people get tired from the long matches in one map, so there is more rotation.

Something i noticed in this iteration of the series is that the gameplay has slowed down a lot. Even comparing UT99 DM against UT3 DM.
Although if you use a few mutators and relatively small maps you can get most of that feeling of adrenaline and fast spawn you get on UT99 or UT2K4.
Warfare is a really cool mode, team based and all, but it is just too slow and it doesn't feel like UT should feel :/
Don't get me wrong, i like this game a lot. But when you need to wait for a free weekend to find crowded servers you know something is wrong >_<

The server I play on constantly rotates based on votes and all maps are available, so far I've played about 6 or 7 different ones.
And I've not been playing that long, only clocked up 2 hours or so.

MP works fine for me. Not many servers up though.

Finally found a server running for MP. Man, this game is tough. Just starts you out with a puny gun. Need practice.
**That was short lived. No more servers/games running. Nothing on solo/battle/demonizer modes. Guess not many people play this one. Oh well.
