So, is Microsoft able to detect this key at all?

SO Microsoft can detect this key, but they choose to do nothing about it? Or are they huddling up now and will zap everyone on a given date that is yet undetermined?

Something like that, yes. They already said the currently leaked key will not be used in OEM systems, so it will eventually be blacklisted. Smile

Why do you act so suprised? It's the same with every pirated Windows lol. And soon more and more OEM keys will be leaked so stop shitting your pants and reading stupid speculations.

As of now windows 7 is cracked and updates are working, so for now "blacklisting" is just a meaningless word to scare people.

Its not really any stress to reinstall if you dual boot. I would guess it works just as fine as with Vista... or?

Why don't you backup them? ;o I've done it and had all my saves on Win7 and Vista, worked online too.

They are hidden in a hidden folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Copy everything from there.

Also copy everything from

C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive

and

C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\GFWLive

When you format your PC and install Win7, copy these files to equivalent folders BESIDES the savegames.

Start GTA IV, save at Roman's place, paste the saves.

Everything works, have fun.

Neon, you 100% sure about this?? I read somewhere that some kind of online protection is used as well and it wont work right once you go into Windows Live..

Yes I'm sure, I used it before. And there is no "protection" if you copy the folders I specified.

32-Bit or 64 Bit go with? I know 64Bit allows for more memory. However, Im concerned with compatibility of all apps/games.

I dont plan on upgrading my rig anytime soon (aside from memory). Currently running ABIT IP35E, C2D@E6650.

Mobo has 8GB limit. Im already maxing out XP with 3GB. So I think it makes sense to go with the 64 bit/ultimate edt of Windows 7 so I can use the full 8 GB max memory?

There are no compatibility issues, so go on and install it. Just get x64 drivers and that's it. Don't let 32bit zealots brainwash you any longer Smile

64bit, unless you have really old apps or hardware

64bit it is! Apps are new. Rig is about 1.5 years old. I can upgrade CPU to Quad, but not going to bother right now. Will only upgrade memory to 8GB (4 sticks each of 2GB DDR2@800MHZ). This will go well with the 64Bit version. Thanks!

Have there been any decent Windows 7 32bit vs 64 bit gaming benchmarks done yet? Other then the ram issue (which is only an issue if more then 4 gigs), all most people care about is which will make their games run faster.

If there is a 64bit version of game, and is designed to make use of 64bit computing (as opposed to merely compiled with a 64bit compiler), then the 64bit will be faster. Otherwise they will run the same. But you dismiss the RAM issue (also limited to ~3.25GB, not 4GB), as if it is a small thing - not that smart on your part.

hi there,

i don't wanna read all the 48 pages from this thread so im gonna ask three simple questions:

1) Which one is the best realease of Windows 7? The untouched ISO is fine?

2) is there any activator working 100%, that does not expire after X days or gets blacklisted on windows updates?

3) win7 better than XP for gaming?

thanks in advance

The Verdict
Windows XP was a great OS in its day. Windows Vista, once it found its feet several months in, was a good OS. With Windows 7, the OS is great again. It's what people said they wanted out of Windows: Solid, more nimble and the easiest, prettiest Windows yet. There's always a chance this won't be a huge hit come October, given the economy and the state of the PC industry, but it's exactly what Microsoft needs right now. Something people can grab without fear.
