btw

nice guide for setting up the english files

"1. Get the unpacker http://www.sendspace.com/file/cu6bqm
2. Copy the unpacker to the gamedir\data\win32\packed and drag Dialogs.dv2 to it.
3. After it has unpacked "Sounds" and "Win32" folders,go to sounds\soundbanks\Win32 and rename German to English(US).
4. Get this http://www.123renamer.com/download.htm so that you don't have to rename everything by hand. Start the program and go to Win32\Characters\Dialogs and just replace everything that has German to English(US).
5. Then use the packer http://www.sendspace.com/file/x8uyez
6. Take the newly modified "Sounds" and "Win32" that you unpacked to C:\ (I did it this way) and create a new folder for them...for example c:\new and add them to that folder.
7. Then copy the packer to c:\ and start the command prompt(cmd) and add the line like this "dv2_pak.exe -a New\ Dialogs.dv2"
8. After that's done,copy the new Dialogs.Dv2 to gamedir\data\win32\packed replacing the original.
9. Start regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[KEYHERE](for me it was Wow6432NODE)\Larian Studios\Divinity2 and change "Language" to English(US)
10. Done. Very Happy"

works very well

( note all above is legit , so see no problem in posting )

Actually for the last step the game seems to default to English when using any name for that registry value but the proper setting is either English, French, Itailian, German or French (EFIGS or multi-5 as it also seems to be called.)

Game itself supports a few others, mostly eastern-European languages like Russian but there are no such files in the games archives so it will probably not work or it'll default to English again if used.

Other than that for the Spanish and Italian translations and lip-sync to work the folder should still be named English(US) and not Ialian/Spanish or Italian(Italy)/Spanish(Spain) that I first believed was the case.
(Some user did tell me that French(France) worked but I haven't tested this myself, perhaps English works as a universal language in this edition as it's supposed to be German only albeit it has a few files from the other languages, actual European edition looks like it might be the same and localized to a few different editions, unsure though as it's not available until late September at the earliest.)

Other than that as I've understood it the English version will be updated and will contain at least the changes from 1.02 and perhaps future patches depending on when those would be released, can't say anything about voice acting as I don't know the details about it.
(Two Worlds and Sacred 2 for example fared rather poorly when re-recorded from German to English based on what I've heard but I guess the same goes for any titles like for example Stalker or Witcher - though for that game the text translation was a bit worse than the audio albeit patched via the so calle "enhanced edition".)

Damn. It hungs after the tutorial (when i leave the village and enter the zeppelin), even though i did all the required stuff (changed the language in the registry to English(US), unpacked the dialog file, renamed it, placed the unpacked content into /Data, renamed *German.dialog to *English(US).dialog, renamed "German" soundbank directory to "English(US)"). After that i even tried to pack all back into a new Dialogs.d2v and to remove the unpacked files - still hangs at loading.

Also:
1) I don't see ANY movies (at all; no intro, no inter-areas movies etc), even though the movies can be decoded with DirectShow on my machine (i'm assuming that D2 uses DirectShow, most of the games do).
2) I don't hear any voice (besides my own character's voice when he finds an item, or fights, or when you try his voice on the character creation screen)
3) I'm obviously missing a lot of animation in scenes (such as when you're imbued with Dragon's memories by the archmage - the character is supposed to fall down but he doesn't)
As i have said, i did everything by the guide. Dunno. Maybe i should change my system locale to English(US)? It's Russian at the moment.

If you repacked the file again afterwards (For working lip-sync data.) perhaps instead of \Sound\ it went \Folder\Sound, had the same problem at first, easily seen by unpacking the files again and watching what it unpacks (Should be a sound folder and a win32 folder.)

EDIT: As you hear the voice files playing (Although it's only some of them.) the files should be correctly packed.
(Registry key wrong? but that seems unlikely if the menus and text are translated.)

Any codecs or such?
(Shouldn't interfere that much however.)

EDIT: Wonder what would happen if you used Russian instead of English for that reg key, only a idea I have at the moment since it seems to English localization but it might work.

I browsed to 15 pages of cross-refering crap, gimme a break.

Anyways, between your ego-trashing, thanks for the tip. Didn't work though, game still just dies w/o an error.

Ugh.

I've tried to blacklist Divinity2 in ffdshow (both video and audio). After that the game doesn't even start (renders black screen). Looks like it's a codec issue after all.

EDIT: No, it isn't. Installed the goddamned WMP 11 and now i can see the videos. Still, the game hungs after tutorial Sad

EDIT: After i've packed everything back to Dialogs.d2v, everything works: i have everything spoken in German, i have animations and game doesn't hung up.

So, the advice you may want to include into the guide: Make sure you install WMP.

Use the dragon stone in your inventory and you can travel to different parts of your battle tower with that.

Anybody got an explanation for the fact that my animations (well, NPCs at least) look kinda "choppy"? As if there are missing frames O.o
Looks very very strange - or am I just over sensitive?

It's over-optimisation of the animations. They remove frames from animations displayed far from the camera, only problem being it's very obvious once you've noticed. I must say from my play through however that it was very much overdone (Most games will only do it for objects very far away). Was a shame really since it definitely helped to break the "fourth wall" while playing :/

Yea, the animations suck. Thankfully, i got used to it, to a degree, after a bit of time. The game is really worth it, story and gameplay-wise. Very deep and rich when it comes to details.

and I've read that a 2nd patch is coming out which apparently tries to fix some of the animation issues (didn't say what exactly)

Been really impressed with the game so far, should be pretty great by the time we see the full english release and it is a few patches older, will do till dragon age anyway Laughing

For anyone who is still having problems with starting the game, with daemon tools/yasu, i'd highly recommend using the mini image from game copyworld, mounted on your physical drive with virtual cd 9. Worked for me after many attempts with other methods described here, including latest daemon tools/yasu. With vista-64.
