You do realize that Crysis (or atleast Warhead) is extremely well optimized.

Crysis is very good game, no doubt.

But optimised? Absolutely no. In time when game coming out, Crysis was probably one of most unoptimised games EVER. Warhead made situation better, but far from perfect.

On other side, id Software always have powerfull, but in same time brilliantly optimised engines.

8X AA is insane anyway, never had the need to use more than 4X

Thats pretty accurate lol,, I mean most cards tend to run with higher samples with low AA anyhow, Im on 4X AA edge detect for all my games.. The filter ups the sampling alot, but there is no real need for more than 4x these days unless you really do have a shitty monitor..

doesn't mean it's not optimized, the engine can was made to scale passed what tech was out at that moment not to mention no other engine has yet to look as good.

Looking at the screens there is something mhee... feels like a 2d background blended on the 3d. maybe thats the way the engine deals with further away objects, anyway hope it looks better in motion an wont affect field of vision

How many years have passed and there's still no hardware out there that can run it properly. Let's face it the game was as good as a graphics experiment goes.

came out at the end of 2007, so maybe about a year and a half maybe? almost 2

how many card gens have their been, I think at that time the 8800GT was right up there with the 8800 Ultra (leo will correct me)

what came next? the piddly 9 series that was bullshit? can't even cound that shit, now the new 200GTX models. So really, nothing's happened much

Im all for believe it was a tech demo but still, there isn't an engine out there that can outdo it's pixel party

and if you say the UE3....ill pulverize you with a frozen trout!

they were a bullshit release that didn't offer anything better. The 8800 GT was almost top of the line with the 8 series, and normally when you go to a new generation, your cards are supposed to be by all means a heck of a lot better, the 9800 Gt should have seen quite the performance gain over the 8800 GT, but instead, it's exactly the same card, they just based the whole 9 series off the chip the 8800GT was made out of, all they should have done was just remake the 8 series but that would have been a very bad marketing move.

9 series was completely useless in terms of a new gen of cards

SpykeZ speaks the truth about Crysis. Just cause there's not really hardware today to hande it at the absolute max, doesn't mean it's not optimized.

Following that logic, it appears every game is optimized no matter how graphically intensive and bad-coded it is. Yep, it will be optimized/run for/by the future hardware with no care but not for/by the current one. That's why such logic is wrong. Optimization is only done in mind for the nowadays machines available. Future is just future...

You cant expect to max AA, AF, AO in every game and call it unoptimized if it doesnt run anymore.. some settings are indeed intended for the future.
So you see.. the truth will always be somewhere in the middle^^

If Crysis is so shitty coded, then why could I play is just fine on a 5 year old computer that barely handled HL2 on high?

Can anyone here mention a single game that looks better than Crysis ( And I don't mean personal opinions, but technically looks better )?
