Yes some mini dvdr's are compatible, you just have to test which ones work best with your gc.

the viper is pretty easy to install just do a bit reseach before you solder it... and if you have experience with soldering/modding than it won't be a problem, i've never chipped a console in my entire life and got it to work.... sure i had some small problems due to carelessness but it worked out fine.

the chip works great and i hope 0.5 of the bios will get released soon to eliminate some ofe the DRE's (disc read errors). You can change the value of the laser on the GC get even less DRE's but i haven't tried it yet works good enough as it is for me.

Oh and don't chip your cube if it's dol 101... (check on the bottom on the cube to see the version number) cause it has lots of problems....

Dol 001 works great with the chip and is the console version i have.

as for tutorials and other information about chips and gamecube go to http://maxconsole.com don't forget their forum and if you have questions feel free to ask me i'd gladly help.

The backups won't boot on that one (viper cobra combination)

But I've read some guys had booting backups with GCOS 1.4

But long not all the Dol-101 will be booting, trial and error.
