Game Description:
James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is the official videogame based on the highly anticipated film James Cameron’s Avatar. The videogame takes you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. You will encounter the Navi, Pandora’s indigenous people and discover other life forms the likes of which have never been seen in the world of video games before. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Navi, you will find yourself thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.
James Cameron has delivered some movies of monstrous proportions. Titanic, Aliens and The Terminator have all come to us courtesy of the Canadian filmmaker. This December sees the release of the long-awaited Avatar, a movie about an alien moon called Pandora and the battle over its riches. Cameron’s last movie, Titanic, set all sorts of box office records. That puts the expectations for Avatar at near impossible levels and naturally paves the way for a videogame adaptation. It’s a game that I had high hopes for and though it does its best to play to the movie’s strengths — featuring a lush jungle world and 3D visuals – Avatar: The Game ultimately suffers from unpolished and thin gameplay elements.
Avatar: The Game takes place on the same moon as its movie counterpart but rather than retelling Cameron’s tale, it offers a prequel story and an introduction to Pandora’s past. The reason for all of the commotion? Pandora is the only known place to harvest unobtanium, a mineral worth whatever it takes to get it. Unfortunately, Pandora has a toxic atmosphere and is the home to some hostile locals, including giant carnivorous plants and the Na’vi, an alien race that stands roughly 10 feet tall. The RDA, a military for hire, has countered with Avatars, a genetic hybrid between humans and Na’vi. And so the war begins in earnest.

Fun a game like this says on the video "this december" and game like diablo 3 takes forever..going Lazy blizzard bastards
ah ah you are wrong there. Yes it comes out already this year but it is the end of the year and ubisoft announced the game in 2007 summer. So that makes it 28 months. Basically 2 and a half years. Blizzard takes about the same time from announcement to release. Maybe even less. Yes Diablo III will take approximately 3 years from announcement to release and i hate them for that but comoooon. THEY RULE.
On topic now a bit. The game is based on a movie so it will probably suck ( if there will finally one day be a game based on a movie that will rock then i will start to think before saying such things but this hasnt happened yet ) . Yes it may have great graphics but nowadays graphics dont mean nothing if you dont have immerison or correct gameplay mechanics in place.
...
Preview. TBH, the game looks more interesting than the game at this point...
Oh? haha.
Anyway I know you meant the movie (Or atleast I guess you did.), CG trailer for it looked pretty nice, saw it a week ago or so at the local cinema as it played before the movie I was there to see.
(How was it spelled? Inglorious Basterds or something, fun action flick anyway.)
Haha, meant movie, yes. Was in a hurry so made a mistake.
The reason I say this, is the game looks less cartoonish the trailer... I was hugely disappointed at the CGI in the trailer, especially after hearing how much was spent on it, while District 9 (and others) achieve much better results with the fraction of budget.
Well the CG movie trailer does appear very colorful with a sort of the usual "fantasy" look and feel whereas the game appears a bit more muted such as the screens showing those walking mechs or vehicle driving sections although there are some more vivid scenery as well such as the one with the valley overlook where that battle near a body of water is taking place against those larger near dinosaur like enemies.
(Hard to describe.)
Could be a fun and somewhat diverse action FPS game as it's both from the tribal native's point of view and the humans or so I've understood it with one being primarily third person and the other first person, can't say much about gameplay until it's actually out though.
(Same goes for story and plot, probably follows the movie rather closely which might be a concern for many due to how many movie to game projects that have ended up being below average, we'll see in a few months when it's released.)
EDIT: Might leak early for X360 as well seeing recent game releases so the console section might be a useful source of info initially outside of game reviews or "exclusive" first reviews and so on, new previews will probably be posted constantly as Ubisoft is a pretty big company and very active on marketing upcoming releases.
(Then again I've done that for most game releases and timed exclusives like say Red Faction guerrilla.)
I really hope (about the movie) that the story makes up for the visuals. Granted I have decided to not read anything about the story, my opinion is only about the CGI trailer.
Well, GameSpy said "the game doesn't try to shoehorn in the movie's plot" so...
But maybe it's just beta and for final product we'll get much better results (the usual response you get from fanbois, who magically disappear when final comes and is same crapola ).

Aye, the Dunia engine. Personally I reckon it looks great! I'm *glad* it's not using the CryEngine 2, else we'd all be bitching about shitty performance
Apart from some stuttering, I really enjoyed the Cryngine2 in terms of gfx quality and performance. Maybe not a gazillion times better than Dunia( ) but surely has a greater level of detail (and a bigger potential) than its "rival" engine.
