|
 |
Hi!
My problem is that I've got a problem with all windows setups since xp (XP, Vista, 7).
With Vista's and 7's setups are very much alike, my problem is also the same with these.
Every time I start the setup after the colorful image and the mouse cursor comes up I have to wait ~5 minutes until the language/keyboard layout window comes up. After I click next and select Install Now, I have to wait another 8-10 minutes until the next window comes up (upgrade or clean...) and the HDD led is constantly lit but it's doing nothing and the machine is in complete silence apart from the fans.
I've tried disconnecting all unnecessary things and tried with this config:
ASUS P5K Pro (P35),
C2D E4500 2.2GHz,
2*2GB Kingmax DDR2 800MHz CL5,
Galaxy 8600GTS 256MB,
2x500GB Seagate 7200.11 32MB cache drives in RAID0,
Codegen 450W,
Logitech Wave USB,
Razer Krait,
Corsair FlashVoyager GT 4GB (installing from).
So WTH is causing the problem???
Thanks in advance!

Where are you installing from? The immediate suspects in what you describe are the DVD drive and the HDD.

From the Corsair pendrive. I disconnected all optical drives and all other HDDs. I'm trying to install to the 2 seagate drives in RAID0.

That happens here too, with Vista and 7 (not in XP as far as I remember). But after the installation begins (copying files) its just normal.
Don't think there's anything wrong with my dvd drive or with the hdds. I always wondered if its not a bug in windows setup... even tho that doesnt make much sense.

Yes it's the latest (2009/01). With the XP (and 2k3) install it happens before the drive selection comes up, but it's only ~4 minutes.
It could be something with the win setup but on an older machine it didn't come up, although that was the Hungarian 32bit version, but it was an ancient pc.
BTW I left that out: I only tried 64bit versions.

Exactly my experience and thoughts. It took at least 10 minutes to get to the initial options in my Win7 RTM 64bit setup a few days ago. Rest of the setup was very fast, faster than XP lol.
OS rocks btw, I successfully dodged the vista bullet.

Perhaps it is checking something in the drive or trying to access SMART information of the drive? Very strange...

Disable floppy drive from your bios "legacy floppy drive".
Or try removing 1 of the 2 sticks of Kingmax you have.

Thanks, I'll try. I've just read about the floppy suggestion.
It's still 30 minutes till another 7600.16385 iso get's downloaded.

With Vista and Win7, it has something to do with RAM. It shouldn't happen if you only have 1GB or maybe 2GB while installing.

Sounds like the USB port(s) are acting like 1.1 and not USB 2.0.
Had the exact same thing when I was installing Win 7 albeit onto an older machine. Once I connected to USB 2.0 port it worked fine.

Thats bullshit no newty?
The over amount of ram issue was an OS software flaw and was fixed if i remember in vista os latest releases, windows 7 should surely not have that problem by now either lol..
of course people could still be using older os discs for instal i guess...Alot of os disks we download these days are all intermingled with recent updates, so if its one of those its highly unlikely its the ram bug.
Either way the long delay between spool up from intial windows file copies on installing new os on vista and win7 happens to me as well... I run raptors and barracuda's the os always on a raptor... (checked many times its fine not faulty)

Are we talking about the same part of the installation?

Literally takes about 4 or 5 minutes. And then the same time again to get to the next screen.

vna, I know it's unlikely, as modern USB 2.0 ports are USB 1.1 backwards compatible, but in BIOS USB Configuration settings, is it set with "USB 2.0 Controller Mode [HiSpeed]"?

My friend had the same issues, extremely slow windows 7 install, and extremely slow windows 7 bootup, took around 15 minutes just to startup, all with an internal hard drive and dvd.
He has a P5B-SE motherboard with 2x2GB ram, took 1 stick out, everything runs fine, if he puts the stick back in, it goes back to being unusable.

Its more of a compatibilty issue with certian motherboards with lots of ram and windows vista/7 than anything else.
