(I'll do the same, download it I mean, not a huge MP gamer though, pretty bad reaction times and all that, hehe, guess I'm untrained when it comes to human opponents.) |
I'll probably download it and see if I think it has enough content to be worth the full price. If not, I'll wait until it has a price drop. I will buy it, eventually. But at release? Probably not. |
Perhaps wait for all the extra content Valve will shell on it (err, I mean L4D3).

I honestly wonder how long Valve plans on waiting till L4D 3. Its almost like they are treating this like a episodic game with how fast L4D 2 is coming.

Given how they started work on L4D2 almost immediately after the release of the first (which further lends justification to everyone's anger, and credibility to the doubts that Valve ever had plans to continue support for L4D1) then it's not illogical to assume Valve will begin creating L4D3 soon.

They started working on HL2 as soon as they finished the first one.

But Sabin, Cedge will claim that the 40min campaign they are bringing (which has nothing to do with the backlash they received) is the marvelous display of support from Valve!

No support? So there hasn't been another gamemode, map, campaign and tons of patches with fixes and changes?

"Another gamemode" No. They simply unlocked what should have been there in the first place; Versus mode on the OTHER two campaigns.
"Map" Oooh, colour me corrected. I guess Valve taking a year to release a 30 minute campaign most definitely qualifies as all the content they offered and promised before the game was even released.
"Patches with fixes and changes" No. If the game wasn't so unbalanced and buggy in the first place, a metric shit-ton of patches wouldn't be needed.
FFS, they STILL haven't even given us the promised SDK! I'll tell you why not; because they knew right from the start that they'd be bringing out L4D2 - and that if we had an SDK for the first game, which is running on the same engine and using the same assets, then we'd just mod it to hell and not need to BUY a fucking sequel.

Why should anything "have been there in the first place"? Just cause you wanted it?
I didn't mean the versus campaigns as a new gamemode. The map I meant is also not Crash Course.

That's a Cedge cop-out line. I thought you were smarter and more open-minded than that Ah well, no matter.
Why should it have been there in the first place? Why SHOULDN'T it have? Versus mode wasn't an added bonus, it was the second part of the game. There was straight Campaign/Coop, then there was the "Deathmatch-esque" Versus mode. The coop mode had access to all four campaigns, but vs mode only had two. Why? There was no other reason than money, or - and this is pure paranoia - they knew there would be a massive fan backlash over the announcement of L4D2 so soon after initial release, so they deliberately kept out the last two campaigns as a way of adding something later to "appease" the fans.
Fucking smoke and mirrors, that's all it was.
"Left 4 Dead 2 is going to have everything we promised for Left 4 Dead 1, but you have to buy the entire game afresh. But please! Don't panic! We ARE supporting the first game, we promise! Hey, look over here -- see? see? We're giving you two extra campaigns to play in Versus Mode! See? We're supporting the game! What...? But the campaigns were already in the game, just locked out of VS? Oh don't worry about that! Here, have a 30 minute mini-campaign too!
New weapons and characters like we promised? Of course! Those are in Left 4 Dead 2!"
You can fight me on this all you want, but it won't change the facts of the matter; Valve screwed each and every person that plunked down money on L4D. They went back on their promises and instead bundled everything they said would be incorporated into the game as "regular updates and support" -- into a full-priced sixy-fucking-dollar sequel.

Ah, I stand corrected on the "new mode" then -I'd forgotten about Survival.

Am I disappointed how we didn't get too much extra content for L4D? Sure I am, like everyone else. I just don't think that Valve has turned shit just cause they're releasing a sequel to the game a year later. We've seen plenty of completely new content. I mean, you can't expect them to put multiple full-length campaigns and such in just DLC or updates.
I bought L4D on day one, and I have gotten way more out of it than other games I pay the same price for. I still play it every now and then.

That's where we disagree then, because I don't consider the same two campaigns, a "survive the waves" mode and a 30 minute micro-campaign to be "plenty of completely new content" -- and I honestly don't see how you could consider it that either :-\
As for expecting them to put "full-length campaigns and such" in DLC or updates? Why not? They said they were going to! This isn't people being greedy and ungrateful, demanding new stuff because we're bored of the game -- it's expecting what was promised, that's all. Hell, before L4D2 was announced; everyone was waiting patiently for the new content! Doug Lombardi, on multiple occasions, likened the future support of L4D as akin to the same support for TF2.
"New weapons, new characters, new maps, new campaigns. We're going to be bringing lots of fresh, new, content to the game via support and patches"
Then they turn round and say that all this good stuff is really not coming to L4D, but a full-priced sequel instead.
Come on man, surely you can't deny that this was a bum deal.

Sorry about that, didn't make myself clear. About the new content, I was referring to L4D2.
I do in a way, but it still wont stop me from buying the second one as soon as it comes out.

To be honest I would be perfectly happy with a sequel if it didn't seem like the same game with minor changes. Of course the game has to be similar but from the videos I have seen it honestly looks like the work of a mod team. Not a single thing stands out for L4D 2 that makes it more appealing than L4D 1. In fact some of the ideas like the melee weapons may be a bad move.
