So I think I'm gonna buy a new 360. Pretty much only because of Live. It's caught up with me I guess, I've been banned for like three years or something now but I'm beginning to crack. No multiplayer, so many DLC's not explored, so many features in games going unused and no arcade joy. Oh and no way to show off the e-penis that is achievement-points.

So I just have a few questions.

First of all, is there any reason to get the Elite other than that it has a bigger hdd?

Secondly since I'll get a HDMI cable now instead of a composite is there still a normal optical-out that overrides the HDMI? I sure hope so.

Third, this is probably a no-brainer, but is there any way to transfer my user from my old box to the new one? I'm guessing no since it's banned right?

Fourth, my old box has some ancient firmware that I flashed way back when and it has been running all games without as much as a single hiccup. Now I'll be getting the newest iXtreme firmware (right?) and that whole games-wont-boot-unless-they-are-properly-stealthed-feature. Which is nice and all but I also read somewhere that you can now boot, via a dvd or something, unstealthed games without having to reflash and what not. This would be pretty nice seeing as how I got a fuckload of non-stealthed games. HOWEVER if you do play games like this, what's the deal with ban-risk and so on? For example can I run an old unstealthed game (presumably offline?), get achievements for my user and later reconnect to Live as if nothing happened?

Fifth, if I get a LiteOn, which I'll ofc get, I guess I can't flash it myself? Read that a sata-cable isn't enough for that, you need a kit and what not. There is some dude in my town that does it for 20€ though so I guess I could pay that. However, won't that become an issue since I'm guessing you need to reflash your box if you want the ban-risk to stay down?

Sixth (I said I had a few questions, calm down), what do you reckon I could get for my old box if i tried to sell it? It's banned, it's like the first generation of 360's, it's red ringed twice and I've ghettofixed it twice, the little hatch for the usb-ports won't close, the warranty-stickers are torn, the fan is for some reason always spinning at max rpm and I think it's missing some screws from when I last reassembled it. On the flipside however is that it hasn't RROD'd in over a year, it plays all games, it's got the small hdd, latest dashboard and I think it helps out at a homeless shelter every other weekend.

If I omit most of the bad stuff and just admit that it is indeed banned from Live but other than that it's as healthy as a clam and as such would be perfect if you don't plan on using Live. My guess is that, with one controller, I could get maybe 150€ for it? Or is that asking too much? 100€ seems like too much of a bargain Wink

So yeah. Answer me! Now.

PS: I haven't slept in 30 hours and spent 20 of those playing Forza 2 so if I seem a little tweaked that's probably why.

PS2: Also I'm thinking about freezing myself so that I can wake up on October 21st when Forza 3 is released. Nailbiter can you wake me up by then?

Well, the elite have dropped in price now. But even the cheap ass arcade got HDMI. Id much rather get an arcade and buy a 120 GB HDD cheap from ebay or www.dealextreme.com Wink Because other than the HDD you are just paying for a color...

and btw, get some sleep Very Happy

Third :

You can get a transfer kit from microsoft, it will move all your content on your old xbox to a new xbox Smile
It's on the website from microsoft, you need to enter your old serial (wich is banned) and the new serial from the new xbox. (dont know if it works because the old xbox is banned)

If you do it the microsoft way, its free. but those cables are like €12 on the internet.

Sixth :

Keep your old xbox, just to play those unstealthed games

hopefully i helped you someway Smile

Good stuff guys.

What about if I get an Arcade and just plug my old hdd in it? That should solve the user stuff right? That does however leave my old box without a hdd :s

However the difference between an arcade and an elite is like 50€ from what I can see and I dunno if I can get a much cheaper hdd than that?

Problem with buying an elite is you don't know how long its been sitting around on the shelf unless you check the serial # , if you don't need a HD get an arcade or go for the 60gig , at least you know they're newer, that's why they're dropping the price in the US by $100 cus not many are buying the elites and to compete with Sony's new 120gig PS3....good luck

Second: To get HDMI and Optical out simultaneously M$ charge a fair bit for their special lead. It appears they designed the slot especially for people to have this problem and then come running to them. You can get round this by simply removing the cover of the composite lead so it can fit alongside the HDMI one. Shown here http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50

Fourth: The latest firmware states "One shot boot mode allows you to boot a Wave X or non stealth game by using the activate.iso disk as a flag. Just insert the activate disc and the next disc inserted will boot without any strict checks. This will still utilise full stealth if available. As soon as that disc is booted the flag is cleared, and you will have to re-insert the activate disk again to enable one shot boot. As always use with caution."

Fifth: I was in the same position as you a few days back with no idea how to flash the new Liteon drive. After a few hours reading along with the purchase of a specific tool to bypass the need to solder and it wasn't a problem. I used the ***kit with spear. It cost about £35 altogether but I now have the option of reflashing, or flashing a friends if I need to so... it's up to you.

Good luck.

btw I think this should be in 'technical section'

I considering to buy one too,
but I don't care about playing on live
I have good PC for online gaming,
the only thing in the live that interest me is the arcade games.
