I wouldn't trust a review that bitches about achievements consolies. But they are right about something, the xbox360 version is apparently plagued with a lot of glitches and bugs that I haven't seen on the pc keeping it from getting a decent score and pissing that guy of immensely. Xbox users aren't used to glitches like that and are probably wondering how this game got approved by Microsoft at all.
"Darkest of Days has its ups and downs. It’s a novel concept that is hampered by technical difficulties on the Xbox 360. (We’ll see how the PC edition fares in our separate review.) Those technicalities take a pretty good game and drag it down into the realm of mediocrity. Still, automatic weapons during a Civil War battle…it’s hard to pass that up."

I was expecting it to be bad but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that bad. Definitely played far worse games.

I think this game is awful. Bad AI, shitty level design, the way it rest's control from you so it can do what it wants and crappy performance. I'm not going to waste my time with this any longer.

Its a lowbudget title from a very small studio , nobody ever said it was an AAA title lol. So show at least SOME respect for their work, it deserves it.

I don't understand this awful review. Of course it's not a game of the year from a big studio, but it seems like a pretty good shooter. I played up to the second mission after you have the select choice before it crashed. At least there's a lot of checkpoints.
Guns sure are worthless, but it's real. How do you expect a cowboy to aim shit? Usually games put WW1-2 guns a bit easier to shoot and stronger than it was really. Also the reload system is great, might be slow but it takes the time it usually would to reload that gun, and you have the chance to fire at some point to shorten that time with another animation.
If you remember the game "NecroVision", it was exactly the same. Started with crappy worthless weapons in WW1, most people said the game was crap and stopped playing, while those who continued a bit further saw that the game was getting better with good weapons and got pretty awesome at the end with spells and other shit. Pretty sure this game will contain strong weapons too later on.

I'm actually very impressed by this game.
It was made by 9 people. Speaking as someone from the industry, you can obviously tell this game was low budget, but that's what makes it impressive. I've seen plenty of projects with teams with 10 or so people. The fact that this game was made by 9 people is simply amazing.
The destructoid reviewer is a moron. He obviously doesn't know how games are made, he obviously wasn't clued up enough to realise such a tiny studio made the game as he makes stupid comments assuming they even had a QA department. The guy is just plain lying when he says this is the worst FPS in the last 5 years. No way.

Tried it and like it so far. It's far from being bad. Not groundbreaking, but still enjoyable. The civil war missions are especially great, and the blue-aura stuff makes the game a bit more varied, since you have to be careful where you shoot those guys. Those seeker stuffs are only a good option where there is a mass battle and you can't take down blues because of the crowd.

Just finished the game, I loved it. Glad I didn't believe you haters and downloaded it anyway. There tons of worst shooters.
You get hi-tech weapons at some points that are simply overkill. The last level is the best one, it's so funny to see hundreds of Rome soldiers getting burned in 2sec by a microwave gun.
Environments are huge, details are good enough. Mission design is pretty nice too, if you know how to play it. I didn't see any apparent bug. The huge mass of soldiers actually react great, not like retard like people say.
Story isn't really making much sense, but if you don't think about details too much and simply follow the script, it's pretty good and have many interesting events.
What is it about you saying the game "take control over your character movements"? I think it only happened once, while walking in a corn field and latest about 15sec. Didn't bother me at all. Same thing about that "desctuctoid" review, he say most of the game is about walking between checkpoints with nothing between them,.. hmm it happened like 2-3 times in the first levels and could be done under 20sec max at run speed.
Game only crashed once during it's entire play time. Was pretty fluid until the few lasts levels which suffered shuttering, maybe more than 2gb ram would fix that.
Some negative points:
-Enemies just don't react when shot from the side, you can flank an entire battalion and they don't turn around.
-Switching guns keep the reload going for the inactive one, I fell like cheating using that trick.
-The "don't kill blue guys" thing was annoying.
-Some people don't like having crappy guns and felling underpowered, and that's what it look like when you start.

You can shoot the blue guys or let them die but the drawback is that instead of three upgrade points you'll only get two and so on depending on how many of them die.
Stuck at some sequence where I need to drop bombs but the guy can't really throw far so I'm finding it kinda difficult to aim, the machine guns available doesn't really help either due to their location and a musket is pretty useless as well due to the slow firing time and longer reload, will get trough it eventually I guess but it's quite a annoying sequence.

Any info in those text log files it generates in the game directory?
Perhaps it's PhysX related as that was the cause for another user?
(Uninstall current version, reinstall the latest one from NVIDIA's website and then restart just to be certain it'll take effect and re launch the game.)
EDIT: I'll keep that in mind the next time I replay that level, might be that the problem was me throwing those bombs from the front and sides then.

Games runs fine on Windows7 here.
JBeckman: This is on the zeppelin right? I remember having a better gun than the musket at this point, a sniper if I remember correctly, it helped me a lot. Throw bombs only from behind and sides, or they might rebound and hurt you, but most of the kills are done with the turrets.
