Gidday mates,
hope everything is well, so i have recently gotten back into using more of my computer and noticed my old headphones (phillips HS900) are an old peice of shit , they are waek have no bass and are falling appart anyway. i have had to put audio options in WMP Classic up to 250% so i can hear properly and that has made the treble all crackly and horrible.
ive been looking on the web trying to learn what i need in headphones as in impendence and sound pressure, i havnt really understoond what i need but im looking for headphones for mainly movies and tv on the pc and second of all for games and music.
i have an old Creative Audigy 2 ZS card which i hope is still alright and that isnt the cause of weak sound.
im willing to pay upto 125-150 bucks into them, so if anyone has some suggestions for me that would be great.
and if were already talking about it are there codecs or some other control panel i can download instead of what i got with my creative card to tweak the audio??

Thanks for listening and hope you can be of help.
Cheers mates!

people call me crazy for paying for these but

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Razer/Barracuda-HP1

http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=7414

they are absolutely fucking amazing!

Don't let the dongle turn you off of them, I'll be getting the sound card when I get the money to get it.

Most of the constuction is I think alunimum or some sorta of thin metal instead of crappy plastic, the mic uses a 2.5mm jack so you can unplug it when not in use, looong cord, great bass

Sorta interested in these now
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Razer/Megalodon/2.html

They also have great support

im using a sound audigy zs2 and works fucking amazing. only requirment you need is a free usb spot to power the built in sub

when setting the surround on these headphones make sure you use 4.1 for the setting, I think the way they setup the speakers inside makes them not see that it's actually 5.1.

once you get em tho, turn on dead space or L4D, sooooo fucking amazing

Sennheiser is near the top of the line for headphones, you can't go wrong with them either.

People can scream gimmick and scam all they want, but surround sound headsets are pure fucking win.

I can only recommend the Razer Barracuda HP1's cause it's what I have and I absolutely love em. I haven't used anything else so my recommendations won't be anything worth mentioning.

I can say my Sennheiser HD 595 are pretty nice, too. When you got one, you should look into Dolby Headphone as a DSP for music, btw. It tries to move the soundstage infront of you and thus "out of your head". Maybe you like that.

I would like to hear those Surround headphones though Smile. Why do people think its hoax anyway?

I really dunno, they claim any headset with 2 speakers can do the same as the headsets with multiple placed speakers in the headset can do.

Ya 2.1 headsets can hear bullets from left to right but not front and back and diagonals up and below.

One of the features of the boomer in L4D is you can't tell where he's coming from, his glurping sounds come from all over to confuse you, normal sound you wouldn't really think much of it, but with mine I start looking all over the place cause i can hear him in the bush over there, then he's on the roof over there, then all a sudden he's behind me blowing chunks on me.

Well even with stereo headphones (or stereo speakers) you can trick your hearing into "hearing things" Laughing. That definitely is possible. But i think the same trick does not work for every person or for every sound and never as good as real speakers or 5.1 headphones.

And i always thought, that sound makes a game much more immersive than the picture quality. Just as you described, because of the sound you move around. With my speakers a friend of mine kept looking out the window because the coach in a Boxing game kept shouting from far offscreen Laughing. Totally seemed to confuse him.

that's happened to me in timeshift.

I kept hearing a pinging sound behind me and was getting pissed off whoever the fuck was messing with the window behind me, heard it again and I opened up the window and started looking around, well I didn't pause the game then I heard the pinging again, it was coming from my rear speakers, the AI was shooting at me and was missing, and I didn't even see them on the screen as they were behind some bushes but never managed to hit.

was awesome lol

I just love surround sound. Door knocking sounds are great, too! I always look back Razz

Some days ago my grandparents watched part of a movie in our living room. Our stereo speakers were playing of which one is pretty badly positioned - far far too right. Well my grandparents were kinda frightened of the whole thing, always looking to the right, since something might come right at them Laughing

Problems with speakers though, is the volume. Music seems to be fine here, but movies might be too loud for at least one of my neighbors to endure... a problem someone with headphones might not have .... an therefore my post is barely topic related! oh how well played of me w00t Cool Face

X-Fi Xtreme Gamer -> Cheap and you will get most perks of the larger X-Fi cards (like EAX, OpenAL acceleration, Crystalizer, etc).

I've got the Sennheiser HD 280 pro. Would recommend them dearly, blocks almost all outside noise. Comfortable as they get and great sound on them as well.
I haven't really tried any other sets in the same price range, so I haven't really got much to compare them with, but I'm over the moon with them.
Just my two pennies Smile

one thing I would recommend, if it's possible, find someplace where you can try them. Get headphones that don't fit your ears they'll end back up in a box in teh corner of your room...

and for fucking gods sakes, stay away from those stupid square headphones, who the fuck are they trying to market to with that crap, people have square ears?

Actually you need to look at Auzentech. Their high-end models, which cost hell of a lot more than an XtremeGamer (he wants something cheap), are all based on X-Fi (that's why they have EAX 3,4,5). The rest (cheaper) are not worth the money (and only have EAX 1,2 because they don't use creative chipset).
