Capcom have appeared to have learnt there lesson from RE4 and all ports since have been excellent, in fact, the general standard of PC ports (GTA 4 not included) has gone up quite a lot from this time a couple of years ago.

Hm, all the talk about using GFWL keys... and in the end i didn't had to. I installed the game and was logged offline with my existing profile (just like fallout 3) I can get all achievements and such.. oh well, no "leaderboards" and the option to play with random people on the net.. but please.. as if there is no hamachi Laughing

Anyway...about the game...

graphics:
It's pretty. There are some not so good looking textures (especially the water). The characters look great

sounds: ok i guess: the music is too action oriented, not survival horror oriented..

game feel:

I guess i should say that i got bored playing resident evil 4.. and never finished it...All the brown colors just killed me there, thanks god here everything is bright.. too bright actually..

But the major thing: I really disliked the direction of the last RE... Where are my zombies ? Instead i was killing some poor mexican villagers infected by a virus that turns them into deformed plants... great....

Now there is even more of that.. with the difference that they are africans now... yay (maybe there will be eskimos in the next part ? )

There is no suspense, not a single moment to be frightened by some sudden zombie / creature approach / attack. Instead each time there is a cutscene showing waves of africans charging towards you... (I still remember in RE 3 how i was walking down a corridor, and suddenly an arm reached for me from the near wall, or how a hunter stalked me into the darkness..ah good times) Here you just know/ see what is coming for you to kill it... (hell, my greates nemesis so far (up to part 4) are the crocodiles...)

The last level i played took me to a bright and shiny jungle aztec like ruins to pull levers and collect gems... and kill indians.. what is this, tomb rider ? Laughing

anyway, the game is pretty, hyped to hell from everyone having a console, but for me it's a generic third person adventure game. combined with serious sam... not the resident evil i played and liked Rolling Eyes

It sucks that the original version of RE 5 that had zombies as enemies got scrapped. Sad

It also sucks that the 3rd revision of RE4 that had zombies was scapped too Crying or Very sad

Why are you doing this to us Capcom? Confused

The game is indeed overhyped, even those that LOVED RE4 agree that it certainly isn't as innovative as that game was. Hell, the critics agree: The metacritic score for this one is around 85, while the score for RE4 was 96!

Still far from being a bad game..

To those who have black cutscenes in dx10. Play a bit in dx9 mode and then again continue playing in dx10 mode. All cutscenes are visible and watchable now.
And just found that even if everything is set to high hdr stays at low setting. There's a config.ini file that you can alter that and other settings.

I think it also depends on what company ports the games as Aspyr still sucks with their Activision ports like Guitar Hero World Tour. I think that is part of the reason they decided not to have a PC version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 since the Aspyr port of part one was terrible and they never patched it.

It happened the same for to even though I have a much weaker system at the time, I tried everything and in the end I finally made it work by installing a fresh copy of Vista on a separate partition and running it from there, runs flawlessly. It's the only thing that made it work for me, I'm not saying you should do the same, just pointing out that it's a matter of OS issues.

I just had the best time in coop since Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory.

Me and some random guy landed on the island with the zombified Mayans(or sth), and after a while we BOTH ran out of ammo Laughing so we were slashing the big boss with just our knives, oh boy was it hard, but we succeeded eventually. Cool Face

Why in the year 2009 would a game not let you move and shoot? If it's easy to do on a gamepad, then add the feature to the games. If it isn't, then quit making action games for consoles, or add a mouse to consoles. Is that unreasonable to ask for?

This is not because Capcom are lazy porters or stupid game designers. It all ties into the tension that the game tries to build. Every bit of it is intentional

yeah, coop is the best feature about this game. My friend and I played through all the chapters in coop on the ps3. Game gets more fun once you get the upgraded weapons etc. Nice action game.

@Ashok0. It's simply a game design decision that the developers opted for. Not because run and gun wasn't possible to implement into the game. I remember the main guy behind the series gave the reasons why they opted to stick with the original control scheme in various interviews before the the game came out. Besides you could argue that the 'rotate and move' controls is what makes the Resident Evil games unique.

Ahhh k, yeah I guess it does have a unique feel to it. Although I think the scheme would be better suited for a true survival game like RE1. Anyways, anyone get it running on Hamachi 1.0.1.5?

Wow, is this your first RE game?? It's a survival horror game, not an action game. Different genres, is this beyond your comprehension? Do you go around asking for an upgradeable race car in a Call of Duty game too??? Fucking idiot. Rolling Eyes

I'm just so annoyed that this complaint keeps coming up over and over for RE5 when it is exactly the same as RE4, yet no one complained when that came out.

They said that in RE6 which is (most likely) going to reboot the whole series they plan to change as many things as RE4 did. If I remember well they said that an example of things that are going to be changed is the control scheme.

The thing is from what I understand they don't plan to reintroduce the horror/survival/adventure elements.. I see them either making an FPS or a 3rd person shooter with bullet time and shit!

And then like you peoples were all like, "YOU IS TROLLIN!" and I was like "I AM NOT TROLLING!! I AM guess_who_kthxbai YOU SEE! Mm!"

i must say that the game is damn good Very Happy
i played it something like 2 hours overall single player, and the first 20-30 min's are kinda bad cause it takes sometime to get use to the controlls and atmospher, but once you gain the controlls, and after the first 30min's, game starts to rock:) i set the mouse sensitivity to 3 and works for me very well, also i like the girl, she is great help shooting and covering and taking stuff for me Very Happy
good game so far, only thing i hate is when you reload you must stop..kinda bad , but still the game is great joy.

edit:runing on c2d 6550 3gb ram 8800gts 320 res 1280x1024 and getting on the BM test 34 fps.

runs great:)
