After reading about the new free business model I created a new trial for the game and I am afraid we won't be very happy with it unless they completely re-write the graphics models, it looks like some game from the Victorian era, all blocky, flat and bland.
Yet the game has possibilities due to it's interesting approach to MMO's.
End tranmsission

[quote="Namarie"]Lulz, whut?
They will launch it free in US, microtransactions, confirmed.
More than likely be pay-to-play in Europe.
Don;t be a twit, the new model is international much like the puppets from World Police.

I still have a level capped Thief character on their servers somewhere. I bought this game and subscribed when it first came out... reached level cap within 2 weeks then cancelled it after 2 months as there was soo little content contained upon release.
The game client is free, but to access the premimium add-on modules (there were 8 of them reportedly) they will charge you a subscription free. What you get with the fee though is access to the additional content, 10 character slots and a set amount of 'points' which you can use to purchase in-game stuff (ie: game items such as weapons, armours etc etc) and a few other things...... if my memory serves me correct. (read about this a couple of nights ago)
What you actually got with the basic client is very insubstantial (about 1-2 weeks playtime if your a power leveler type, possibly month or two for a casual player) so I guess if people play and like this game they will actually need to subscibe sooner rather then later.

"To clarify, for the time being, DDO Europe will not be assuming this new business model and the European DDO game service will remain a monthly subscription-based game with all new content created available to all subscribers, as has been the model up until now," said Codemasters in a statement.

The game goes free to play some time today so yeah. It'll be limited but you can unlock stuff by doing quests as far as I know.

I'm not surprised by the level-cap, as the cap exists in the source (D&D itself) - but it's a shame they didn't expand it a little bit for the MMO.

well they tried. For example you gain level at 25k exp, at every 5k you receive an action point and with it you can enhance some of your abilities (extra stat, or focus skill which enhance some of your feat etc.) But even with this.. grinding to the next level does not bring much of a satisfaction..

When I try to register a free account I get this error:"Your submission contained an error. Please try again. Code: #FTx" When I try to get account ticket via this page( http://www.ddo.com/component/content/article/482-account-ticket) it ask for Card Holder First/Last Name and Last Four Digits of Card on File. What does that even mean? It wants my credit card number?

doesnt it fucking say ? "and Last Four Digits of Card on File"
it means it wants the last 4 digits of ur card.. its a security thing..
im betting support is not for the free trial at all, its asking u for last 4 digits as if youve already been paying with a card for the game...

It's free for everyone now, but they're having issues with accounts - you have to contact Account Management to get help.
I'm doing that right now, because this is a pain in the arse for me. I already have a beta account, so I can't create a new one - right? Well because of that, I can't even sign in to DDO-Unlimited because it's not registered ON that account. *grumbles*
Pain in the friggin' arse.

If you or someone you know is using one of the "alternate" browsers (ie. Chrome, Safari or Opera) please be sure to let them (or yourself as you are now reading this ) that unfortunately the account creation page supports Firefox 2.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 7 only currently. In other browsers strange or incorrect behavior may be experienced.

Can you buy individual classes? Or do you HAVE to have a monthly sub? If stuff is s one-off payment, I'll happily consider it - but I'm not paying $15 a month for a game I won't play all the time anyway.
