(Nice to see a release as well, not that good at racing games though, hehe.)

EDIT: Heh, seems to have performance troubles with ATI.
(Pretty big ones as well if I understood it correctly.)

ATI is freaking pathetic. Looks like EVERYTIME a new game is released, you need to wait for new drivers so you can actually play the game without gfx problems/slowdowns/stuttering/etc.

I'm sick and tired of installing new drivers and driver fixes every two weeks. New driver versions released every four weeks, and driver fixes every two weeks.

Fuck yess Very Happy

I think this is gonna be the first NFS im gonna play with a 360-pad. Burnout Paradise played great with it. Im hoping you can look left and right through the drivers eyes with the right analog-stick, would be nice Razz

Do you honestly believe it's because of ATI or because of the way the game is coded?

Right above the little performance chart. Smile

Quote:

Need for Speed: Shift - Performance estimation
Although we wanted to deliver graphics cards benchmarks of Need for speed: Shift, we have to refrain from doing so. In our version of the game Nvidia's Geforce cards were running without problems, but AMD's Radeons were noticeably slower that usually. AMD is already aware of the problem and is working on optimizations for Shift. As soon as we receive a solution for the problems we will deliver benchmark results for graphics cards and processors.

(AMD instead of ATI as they bought the company, bit confusing at times.)

It's not just this game, that is why I blame ATI. Last game I played was red faction and it has massive flickering on 4870x2 cards. This is due to catalyst 9.9 drivers, NOT the game.

ATI/AMD is a bit slow with game compatibility, Gothic 3 addon (Forsaken gods) got it's own profile just now with the 9.9 driver update and the same goes for Batman and RE5 despite demo and benchmark versions being available earlier, unfortunately Red Faction is supposed to support SLI and Crossfire but neither company has fully working profiles for the game (ATI doesn't have a profile at all.) and as ATI/AMD is also a bit slow with driver updates it might take one or two months for full functionality (NVIDIA users can use nHancer to make SLI work with some tweaking.) ATI doesn't need to do constant beta driver releases but similar to EVGA's and NVIDIA's SLI updates they could do a bi-weekly profile addon update for the current driver to fix some of the bigger issues and compatibility for the recent games, though they are quite busy now with DX11 and the HD 5000 series as I've understood it.
(9.9 was more of a maintenance update, some title improvememnts but mostly CCC and core driver functionality, still has some issues unfortuantely especially with the new control panel layout but it's being improved with each release.)

For now make sure to disable Catalyst AI if you get flickering with Crossfire enabled, will disable it completely if using a X2 card so you need to put it back afterwards which is a bit of a cumbersome workaround at the moment.

Game seems to play fine on my HD4870, few moments where i noticed a dip in framerates but nothing major, if these were the problems that should be fixed in an upcoming driver update there's not much to worry about.

Seems fun so far, very sensitive controls with the 360 pad, not like any driving game i've played. The real test will be when i test out with a wheel, no arcade racers have worked well with the wheel for a long time.

Various previews have said that the visuals are better than Grid but I guess Dirt 2 will give some competition (Especially the PC version with DX 10 and DX 11) via heavy shader effects and stuff like blur and other things, similar to the first game and just Grid. Smile

WOW!
After seeing those screens all I could think of is "Is that a Need for Speed game!?".

It looks so cool. I had given zero attention to this game so far, because I hatted all the latest NFS games (Porsche is still my favorite).

Seems that the series may be back on track!
To the guys who already have it, how good is the gameplay? Is there some sort of monetary/career system in play?

Thx

Well , i think GFx are a bit to "clean" ! (try the game to see what i mean )
I mean i always complain about too much blur or bloom ... but this is not the case for nfss, maybe , it needs it , a bit !
Few more screens , and now let's try the game Surprised

Thought this game was far too easy, installed my wheel anyway (there are 28 presets for various wheels and controllers!) and the game still seemed a bit easy and boring to control so i moved it from expert to "pro" and wow, it's really hard to control now and not hard like GRID was with it's shitty steering system but hard because i'm braking on corners and hitting the throttle too hard causing a spin.

Feels nothing like any of the PC sims i play but it's also not as simplistic as any of the recent 'next gen' driving games like dirt or grid, feels like they have really tried to get this game to work with driving wheels. No idea what pro feels like on the 360 controller.
