dodger2020,

Yeah the game was a bit bug ridden on release, but the EE fixed the serious issues. If you want to get back into the game, get the EE, and then install patch 1.5. I for one absolutely loved the game, but you have to understand the game is NOT for anyone looking for tons of dungeon romping, combat, or party micromanagement. But if you're looking for a game with great dialogue, great characters, and a cool story to boot, I think you'll find that The Witcher has a big heart.

Doesn't suck time around like I thought it did the first time. Seems like it's a much better game this time. I still think the combat is wonky though. But it runs a lot smoother. Running the enhanced edition with the 1.5 patch and the enhanced edition director's cut patch.

The release notes for the 1.5 patch say that the DC patch is not needed.

So Skidrow + patch 1.5 = victory , right ? (I wanna install it to a friend)

Yep, that is correct.
Also, both Skidrow EE edition and the original Witcher clonedvd were European editions, thus uncensored from the start.

install PATCH 1.5 over the enhanced edition "SKIDROW" and play ! Smile

and it removes protection so no crack needed

2 days? maybe if you did 48 hours straight, took me about a week with 4-5 hours a day playing, doing sidequests (probably more now that I thin of it)

well id been meaning to do it for a LONG time, but i finally finished my second play through... wow... this is one of the only games i can think of that just leaves me excited and breathless just thinking about it, such a brilliant gaming experience that REMINDS me what i LOVE about gaming (which i really need, given the shit that comes out these days hardly hold my attention, even if they DONT flat out suck...)

but yeah... this was my first go through with the enhanced version.. noticed a few rough edges and such still, but so what, doesnt stop me enjoying the hell out of it, and im so insanely hyped for the next game.

when i played through witcher the first time, i was in my 'all rpgs fucking suck' mood... the game gradually changed my mind as i warmed too it (jap rpgs still stuck ass though Very Happy), but i was able to fully embrace it and enjoy it right from the start this time, so i got much more into the story, and payed more attention to what was happening and what was going on... yeah just really getting into it WAY more this time round, so it was an even more enjoyable experience... just love the game to fuckin bits. i also played it through this time making sure to really hunt out quests n shit, to really get everything i could out of it. got the sexy silver and steel swords from the teeth/trophy quests, which i hadnt done the first time. also this time i made much better use of bombs/oils/potions and the hex sign, which was fun... dance puppets!! oh and i really put effort into remembering weaknesses of particular enemies, and so sword combat became insanely enjoyable, attacking enemies then switching styles in-game rather than using the pause... i put together some fucking insanely enjoyable fight sequences...

played it through this time, taking what i had always considered the 'evil' road (fighting for the elves), and was actually pleased to see that by the end of it, the way id played it wasnt really evil at all, it was actually quite rewarding, though i still think the elves are a pretty evil bunch of fuckers... nice to see a game that balances choice making rather than going to boring bullshit route of having you either as the saviour of the universe or an evil bastard who massacres kittens for fun, whenever you arent plotting the downfall of everything in the world just for giggles...

but whatever. witcher. GOTY 2009 Very Happy

like i said before, this game reminds me of WHY i game.

unf unf unf unf witcha witcha witchaaaa

u know what'd be fuckin awesome. what would be so fucking cool it might make my brain explode... if the devs issued a patch that saved the final state of the gameworld when you finished the game, then let you start the next game from that point. obviously too late in the dev cycle to do that, but that would have blown my fucking mind... not being able to keep my gear (though that would be sweet), but to build on that 'discovery of who i am' quest, and allowing character attitudes towards you be maintained etc... make it a REAL and consistant gameworld between the two games, that would have been aaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhh fuck id have loved that Sad

also bringing back rayla. she was damn cool, such a waste Sad was i the ONLY one that liked her? fuckin wanted to gut yaevinn for what he did... fucking cheap shotting pointy eared little tosser...

also i dont see it... models look the same to me. richer textures, but the models didnt look improved?

well, most of it is in fact what they're wearing, but take this one for instance, the complexion of his face, you can see the little "pores" and aging in his skin better, it's not so washed out, take notice on the cheek on the right side of the image (realistically, his left cheak)

yeah but isnt that just texture work?

meh doesnt matter... makes a fantastic game look fantasticer so im all for it. guess ill have to play it again. i installed the extended edition patch a while back but it only had one new sidequest... is there any way to get the second side quest (i think its the one that takes place outside witcher HQ) by itself, or is it only part of the EE download (which i would have to download again...)

think ill have to play it through again, this time taking the neutral path Very Happy

I've finished The Witcher twice now (one as vanilla, another with the Enhanced Edition) so now I'm looking for some nice modding goodness. I've found a couple that sound fun (except the "HARDER EDITION!!! LOLOLOL!" shit that just makes my blood boil. Yeah, I wanna fight enemies with 200-600% more health, while I do 30-50% less damage, don't I? Go fucking kill yourselves) -- so I'm looking forward to a third playthrough ^_^

Theres quite a few new adventures you can play through as well. 2 of them came with the EE

http://www.thewitcher.com/community/en/adventures/

my only gripe abou the new adventures was, it was sort of awkward running them, had to run them through the editor.

So I decided to give this game a go after reading what a supposedly good game it was. After playing it for an hour last night my impressions so far are that it has a horrible, clunky combat system which is cumbersome and slow, while the camera angles don't appeal as it doesn't appear to pan correctly.

I'll give it another go maybe tonight, but so far I really don't have good anything to say about this game.

It's meant to be a bit slower paced and more tactical, not just click the enemy repeatedly though this can also be done once you are a bit more experienced so as to attack/combo quicker and using various abilities.

EDIT: That said it does take a while to get used to compared to more direct combat control schemes or just clicking on stuff to attack but once you learn more about the different stances and combine them plus varying them for different enemies you'll likely work trough opponents with ease.
(Gets a bit more complex than that later on of course with different weapon types, primarily swords though support weapons have their uses at times.)

I liked the game from the very beginning because of its uniqueness. As JB said, it takes more time to get used to the game than most other games, especially if it doesn't charm you from the beginning (as it did with me). I can't really say anything to make you play it. The game is a gem for me, it's actually my second favourite game after the Gothic games. I saw over the time that a lot of people didn't like the game because the things you said. Well, I really don't see those things bad, I am one of the few people maybe that would have preferred the second game to be just more polished version of the first one in a lot of terms. I like that it's not the usual mindless clickfest. The story of the game is one great thing about it, but if you can't enjoy it because of the gameplay, you can't like that either. So it's really up to every player if the game is great or not. I would like to make more people love this game, but I really can't see how I can do it, because it's a taste thing that makes some to don't like the game.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I guess I'll give it another go, maybe I need more patience with the combat system and as you say it's quite unique.
