What do you mean engines? Do you mean the ones that do every thing for you (a-la on click "game maker") or something productive that will help you program a game?
Since you posted it in the "Programmers Corner", I will recommend the best in my opinion -> XNA. While it is great for 3D, it is great for 2D as well, and you can eventually upload your game to the Microsoft app-store for the Zune (if the game is capable to run on a Zune, of course, but it should as you are making 2D). There are countless XNA tutorials on the internet, but if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.
