They are not retarded, they are just needlessly afraid. Sometimes, I show my mom how to do something, and sometimes she forgets how to do it. I always tell her, "what's the big deal? what are you afraid of?" and she always says she's afraid not to break the PC.  I don't get her fear, but this fear can be found in many people; they are afraid to break their tech. So yeah, I can easily see people falling for crap like that, not because they are "monumentally RETARDED" but because they lack the experience to know that they can't break something by setting the wrong preferences.

Then those sort of people shouldn't even own computers or consoles. Meh, I just have no sympathy for people that get suckered into paying such a ridiculous amount of money for something they can quite easily do themselves, just by RTFM.

buddy of mine worked for geek squad once, he got fired for recommending people go find a real comptuer store to get their computers fixed cause.
They are literally told when "fixing" a computer to run some bloated software on it, and clean the inside out with compressed air.
I had a friend bring a laptop their once, they told him the laptop was broken, would need a brand new HD, some new cables etc etc etc, was going to cost over 300. Gave it to me, I resintalled windows, ran fine ever since.
Honestly if people are too stupid to do something on their own or learn about what their using then fine, they can pay the price, and ill continue to laugh my ass off
