Publisher bitComposer has updated their site to say that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will now be released in November in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

This curious move means that the game now has three separate release dates; 2 October for Russia and the Ukraine, November for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, whilst the US and the rest of Europe have to wait until the first quarter of 2010.

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that the Russian version has already leaked on to file-sharing sites. Apparently, this version only works in Windows 7 and the DirectX 11 options are disabled, suggesting this is probably a leaked beta rather than the final product.

According to the fact that previous Stalkers were betas when released, so this is going to be alpha ?

Probably, game is great though, bit short perhaps if you only focus on the story missions but very open and quite a lot to do, will be fun to play it properly if the Russian or German texts (When available.) can be correctly translated. Smile

I liked the first game, except for the max weight/running problem, the apparent bugs and the fact that I had to stop playing cause the guy I was supposed to follow was stuck in a fence with no way of moving him. So I didn't went that far.

I then tried ClearSky, and though it was a joke. It was the exact same places, the same guns, same monsters, same items, engine wasn't optimized any better, etc. The only thing they did was moving the NPC around and changing some dialogs. I still played, and got further than in the first game.

So what is this one about? Another quick cash-making remake with the same environment and nothing new, which could had been released a few years ago or does it actually have something good worth playing?

From what I've heard, this is a large improvement over the older games. Not buggy either.

Might contain some light spoilers:

In terms of weapons, armor and enemies it mixes content from SoC and Clear Sky with some new additions like a drum magazine shotgun, return of the Burer and Chimera mutants (Cut but added previously via mods along with the Izlom and "rat".) and the ability to mod weapons like the PKM, locations are all new and much bigger (Four all in all and larger than the Swamp level in Clear Sky aside from one underground location, Pripyat is revisited as well but it looks much different.) plus it has a more focused (yet shorter) story and instead of randomized quests these are all handmade (Though it's still a bit random as to how they play out.)

Engine is a bit scaled back initially though once unlocked via some light modding it really looks great though it demands some hefty hardware to use all of it. (Even supports DX11 for hardware tessellation and some new shadow functionality.)

It's not as run and gun focused as Clear Sky but there are a lot of roaming Stalkers and mutants around so you'll be shooting but there will no longer be constant warfare like in Clear Sky.

All of the factions return (Save renegade bandits from CS.) though some like military and monolith have a smaller role, Clear Sky can also be found though not more than a few previous members (One of them recognized my looted faction armor and made a comment about it plus offered to modify it a bit for a price.)

One of the better Stalker titles (The others are quite OK as well by now with the latest patch and unofficial patch and perhaps a few mods, heh.) and definitively the smoothest one so far with no major bugs and issues encountered so far though there are probably some.
(Overall it's on a smaller scale and more focused, shorter development time perhaps but it worked out quite well in my opinion.)

I love stalker and i will buy this one, i do hope this version will see more great mod support like the original stalker had, clear sky was unfortunatly a bit of a dissapointment for the owners of the original stalker, but it made sence for them to relase it, many gamers didnt have the original stalker and this would be their first experience with the franchise. Something i can appreciate for them to grow as a company.

Gotta hand it to them russians, perfect scifi horror shooter mix to date with that survival flavor and no competition in sight.

English version was delayed to Q1 2010 for some reason, game itself is finished though voice acting might take some time I'd guess plus proper localization (German version in November though so it doesn't seem to take all that long, guess most dialouge is still in it's native Russian language but with more text and subtitles.)

EDIT: After this X-Ray 2.0 and Stalker 2 should be a nice refresh of the series, seems Stalker 2 is more or less confirmed though it'll probably be a while until the first details emerge.

i don't think someone will fully translate it anytime soon, it's simply too much work - otherwise we'd have seen a translated version of the boiling point sequel by now for example

but...if a few others would join in, we could translate the german version when it comes out in november, which would be far easier than the russian one.

Just finished and I really enjoyed it, even more so than CS. Also it was longer than CS at least for me, and I always try to do all the quests I get. Gets a 8/10 from me.

First of all I am pleasantly surprised that there were no game breaking bugs, or bugs that would ruin the experience. EVERY quest I was able to get just worked. All the people were in the right place, they did what they were supposed to, thus I was able to complete everything. There was that bug where stalkers would start aiming at something and you couldnt talk to them which was present in every stalker game, but ti didnt last long. Other bug was some people were floating, but that was rare. Another weird bug that stayed with me throughout the game, is your character (or your POV) keeps moving up and down by itself. It is like you are talking to somebody and all of the sudden you get on the level of their stomach and then back up again. And finally an annoying bug at the very end of the game, but a quick reload solved that. Also I dont know if its a bug or not but bandits were neutral to me even if I blasted other bandits earlier. I actually could make a deal with them about some ransom (but I just killed them all).

Performance could have been better. To me areas seemed a lot bigger than SOC or CS but it came at a price. I was getting some lags, and no way I could run it at the highest with playable framerate and thats with q9550@3.4 GHz, 6 gb ram, and gtx285 so the system is not crap.

Like I said the areas were bigger, and a lot more interesting to me. And FINALLY exploring actually pays off because unlike in previous stalker games, all the stashes are full from the beginning. You still get coordinates to them from people, but you could find them on your own and most of them contain weapons and ammo. I actually found a lot of weapon stashes, so looking behind slanted doors, overturned boxes and desks and any other place that might look interesting will probably have something. Also in order to upgrade your guns you have to find tools for traders and those tools are also scattered in places.

In terms of scary, its not scary at all. Some areas are indeed creepy but nothing on the level of those underground levels in SOC. You do go in the X# lab, but they were not as enjoyable as SOC's.

And finally a stalker game that has an actual ending, not some weird ass CGI scene that makes no sense. The ending is in the same format as the opening and pretty much sums up everything that you did in the game (even some sidequests that I did). It also sums up what happened to the areas and some of the people. And I will definitely replay the game because Im pretty sure I missed some stuff.

Overall a great game, I would recommend waiting for a good translation and not some half-assed one. There is alot of dialogue in the game that is essential to understanding wtf you doing or just some background on what happened to previous character.

Anyone else having problems with shadows? I have this shadow constantly in front of me, and it's incredibly annoying. Also, when running in DX10, all my shadows are "liney".

Edit: Actually, the whole ground is "liney". Also, how come I can't enable Detail Textures?

Edit2: Well, the lines went away when I disabled "shade from sun". I'm in a ship now, and there's a blowout happening. For some reason, my health drops until I die.

Hm, it's much harder to make money in this, now that you can't sell junk weapons to the traders. Makes hunting for artifacts more important I suppose.
