Yeah I like it too. It´s so much better all around...
There are some new mods available for NFS Shift, making all the cars available and get rid of bloom and DOF. And there is another mod available with the same target then realmod, give it a better realism. Haven´t tried it out yet cause needs to unpack couple of original files but will give it a try....
cheers

Actually I haven´t checked with the lap times, but the whole feel of the car is far more real than before.
The annoying sliding disappeared completely for me, but I was mostly running the pagani Zonda-R cause it´s most fun right now..
Though I managed to get a time of 7:14 on Nürburgring after some practice.
Career is not affected as far as I could see it. Tracks feel better as well so this really is a lot better in my oppinion.
There is another "real mod" on the racedepartment which I will try tonight since it has FFB adjustments for G25 which I´m using.
Hope that will lvl up my experience : )

no matter how i try (even with mods) I cant FEEL this game, cant get into it.
this cause this is a different game from all the others.
from the arcadest to the most simish i can always say "ok, i know where im doing wrong" to improve my way to handle the car and laptimes. with this nfs thats simply impossible to me.
even in simplest games i can learn lines, braking points etc.; that simply happens because you as a driver are in charge and with time you learn how raise up your feeling with the car.
thats simply pointless with nfs shift.
other racing games are about to feel and learn, shift is about interpretation and adept.
when i play i cant take 2 similar laps in a row (the simple concept of "fastest lap" is some sort of a random fact).
i think all that is due the fact that what i do (acc, brake, steering movements) are not simply put directly into the game, but "interpretated" by the game as im not in complete control of it, but the game has it.
course im not implying my controls (pad or wheel) should be perfectly read and simulated, theres no game doing such, but ive seen a lot better model than this and, frankly, between the two i prefer the other one, for all life.
im not saying this a BAD game. im simply implying nfs shift is a casual racing game.
if someone plans to play more than an hour or spare sunday on it, i wouldnt suggest him to concentrate his attentions to this game.
said that, ill hope theyll release the dev pack to enjoy the engine in different and much better ways than the ea can think about.
who knows, maybe the engine itself is a diamond in a rough...
atm its hard to see the shininess.

Andrea, have you used one of the mods mentioned above??
I had the same feeling before with the default game. Are you using a wheel since I found the game pretty much unplayable with the keyboard.
cheers

sure, mod installed.
tried with xbox pad and m$ wheel.
even with the wheel i sense the game gets my inputs in different way from how i move them.
its not about the control configuration, since ive tried different deadzones, sensitivities etc.
i guess its the game itself. its meant to feel that way.
in gt4 i incline the pad a certain way and i get a certain angle of steering back, which is predictable.
in shift i incline the pad a certain way and i get something different, interpretated and not by me (course i didnt expect to have the same gt4 type of response, the games would be too much similar otherwise, lol).
its not even shift's fault (if a fault can even be found), its the game model.
i feel almost the same sensation with dirt2.

And that link is hilarious, a bunch of butt hurt ATI owners crying, typical.
My post probably looks mean but I'm tired of this bullshit, before I tried to discuss this matter normally, but it's virtually impossible to have any meaningful conversation with ATI owners. It's like they have ATI flu or something.
I see this whole thing as Bluray vs HDDVD. ATI had DX10.1 but it was gimmicky so it lost, Nvidia had Physx, it was adopted in AAA titles and continues to be more and more widely used so it took the lead. |
just wanna mention... the issue there was that you could use dual cards before, then suddenly no more (there is a mod that just came out of newer drivers & it works)
these are "butthurt" nvidia owners (with ati being the main gfx card, decent nv for physx)
it's fine when there is NO nv card present of course, it's expected for physx to be slow in that case

Ian Bell new interview:
http://www.virtualr.net/need-for-speed-shift-discussing-shift-with-ian-bell/
Quote: | We’re committed to supporting Shift long term with new content and patches. I can’t go in to what we have planned but I agree we do sliding well
We’ve worked hard to add additional optimisations for ATI cards with success. This will be coming in a future patch. In the mean time, using a profile from other games helps. I’ve heard that renaming the exe to grid.exe helps a fair bit on ATI cards. |

Bwahahaha what a moron... You know it's very BAD when someone from the developers asks you to rename his game's EXE to a competitor's EXE name
(BTW, it helps Jack Shit, not even 1 fps more)

well no matter what i do and what mod i use it's still feels like trying to control a brick on ice, especially on a high speeds
pc version tho looking 10x better than console one has broken vehicle control and tuning and yeah i tried kb, gamepads, wheel it's just doesn't even remotely feels like driving a real car or it's easy to control as an arcade, plus it's very boring, u only doing circles and drifts, bams same shit different look and trying to fight with understeering on a rw drive car, which is practically impossible, well at least irl

Well, can´t agree with that Mortibus... it quite feels pretty real now with the real mod. I did found a config file for the G25 on some german site, it helped curing the wheel lag.
But what´s really odd is that it needs modders to iron out the games behaviour.
I clearly see what the devs had in mind but to just "hide" the sim nature of the game "physics" engine to make it more arcadish and accessible is just bad.
Why haven´t they put in a switch so you can choose between more sim nature or arcade style where shit slides all over the place??
Nobody can tell me that the devs are not aware of the underlying capability of that shift engine and tbqh I think it rocks.
Maybe they were planning on it in future add ons through downloadable content... I don´t know.
Anyone tried LAN games with Shift? I can´t seem to find the menu entry, where is it hiding from me... patched to 1.1 it is.

The QUI is too console like. You can't select hosts or see what games are up, you have to search with:
race/time-trial/drift
stock cars/mixed cars(own and stock)
race lenght(short/medium/long)
prefered car level 4/6/10/14/unrestricted
Every one of those has any option and also ranked and unranked games. Unranked can have AI cars too.
Then there is the Driver Duel thing, that is almost impossible without helps. 1st round is oval 1 lap and when your opponent is revving to the limiter, you know he's got traction control and you are going to lose, as he shoots of the line like a rocket.
But then there are times when you don't hear the rev limiter sound and you know that the opponent has a wheel too. Then it's fun as I've mostly met people who drive nicely, opposed to GRID where it was more crashing.
Haven't driven online at peak hours yet, like now, so don't know how active it is, but I've always found a race. Well driver duel has been no go on higher tiers. I'd thin it's raced more on days rather than nights.
I don't think that I wasted my money, it's at least 2x the fun than SP. Would be more fun, if there was PC specific MP options and even more fun if there was option to force assists off, like we finally got to GRID after much lobbying on official forums.
Also works nicely with high pings too. I've raced with 400ms+ players, you might get the bigger crash on small contact and ghost hits on walls, but no warping of cars.

Need for Speed Shift – Pro Career Mod
While other mods for Need for Speed Shift have already improved the title’s graphics and physics, xupeko’s Pro Career Mod aims to extends Shift’s career mode.
Changes by this mod include changes to the race length by factor five, getting rid of the very short two-lap events. The required points to level up have also been increased by the same factor to suit the new race length, the prize money awarded for new levels has been decreased to further slow down the career mode and make it more rewarding.
Xupeko points out that this mod is meant to be used with Dario Morelli’s Real Mod 2.0b, installation is as simple as overwriting some files.

From what I've read, this should be the definitive patch; the amount of fixes is really huge and (maybe) we'll have some optimizations too..
At least, better late than never.

I wouldn't count on fixes for ATI. Last time I heard anything about it, EA and ATI played "pass the ball".

Sweet, thanks for the patch news. Have been waiting for it and 8->12 online sounds nice. Though I'm getting bad pings, wonder if they'll be even worse on 12 racers, or have they actually tuned the net code allowing the additional 4 players.

Game runs really fine here. C2D 6750/2GB/Ati4750.
If u run on 8xAA some hick-ups when race starts with allot of cars in the screen.
When i tune it down to 4xAA it runs very smooth. Maybe the patch can give me this little bit of performace to remove the ugly jacks from my screen while running in highest resolution.
Also installed the real-Mod. And it more enjoyable now. Playing with keyboard.
Thanks allot for the hard work to the one bringing this to us.
Omg chaingang23.. Nice setup.. Im jealuse.. I'm saving money for a gigabyte x58 motherboard. Running on a DS3 now lol! =P
