An almost complete translation of STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Some people have re-worded the google translation, which has made it much more readable and easier to understand.

I got two of those "Compass" artifacts by shooting a certain tutorial guy (And his dog.), pretty nice though I can't do much with them. (Unsellable and too high radiation factor for the bonuses, have a lot of other misc stuff by now as well though so I don't use them for much.)

I talked to Beard (the guy that sells food and artifacts in Skadovska) and he offered me a pretty good sum of money for a Compass artifact.

The new translation makes quest descriptions much better. Generally, a large improvement over the old one, although conversations with random stalkers are still pretty much the same.

Heh well tbh the random stalkers weren't great conversationalists in SoC/CS, either. Razz

Or is there more dialogue options now with the NPC's not relevant to quests etc?

Played a couple hours with the newer translation. It is indeed an improvement, but it still has quite a bit to go in some places.

The real problem is not necessarily the quality of the translation, but the fact, that so much of the spoken stuff is not subtitled and thus not understandable.

I´ve heard them say sooo freakin much and without knowledge of russian, can´t make out a word of what they are saying....always have to puzzle though the quest text and the dialogs afterwards....

Here, this'll max the visuals out though the game will be quite demanding.

What are the most demanding options performance-wise? With only the in-game options maxed out, the game looks like ass (seriously, what's with the terrible shadow around the player), but when I pasted those settings directly, especially when it rains it's not really playable.

Edit: Meh, seems like it's limited by cpu - changing AA from 0 to 4x had no effect on the FPS (30'ish). You'd think a game like this would support quadcores properly. Sad

Edit II: Well changing the SSAO from HDAO to default (what's the difference with these, anyway?) seems to have fixed it - didn't get a huge FPS boost, but it feels a lot smoother somehow. Kinda hard to explain, can't recall ever experiencing something like this before.

SSAO is the "lowest" quality without turning the effect of altogether, HDAO is a high-definition version that is more demanding, HBAO further adds to this but seems to also use a subtle blur effect.

SSAO quality option further in the config file can also be altered, that and the sun quality option really affects performance though visuals won't be that different as it's mostly related to the complexity of the shader instructions.
(More precise and more samples and that stuff, mostly only really noticeable during clear weather and around 7 in the morning when the sun rays are activated.)

To my knowledge the best translation patch atm. They've begun working on the dialogue, and from the looks of it it's already pretty good at this early stage (not home so can't check in-game, just took a peek at the xml's).

There's also a few "mods", most of it you could probably do yourself - but the weapon sounds replacement will come in handy.

Btw., for those who've managed to play a bit more now - how's the game's economy overall? I noticed you can't sell any gear that's in sub-optimal condition (kinda silly, I mean I can understand if a gun is below 40% or so, but the traders I've met don't accept anything except ones in near-pristine condition), so gathering guns and selling them off isn't the cash cow it was in earlier games.

Shame, since I really like backstabbing those lone stalkers that wander around randomly. Very Happy

Do you come across stuff that's in better shape later on, or is most of your income now from artifacts and such?

There's a mod that allows you to sell damaged equipment (Instead of having equipment require to be in no more than 70% of it's original condition.) though as you say it'll unbalance things a bit instead of forcing the player to discard items unless money is spent on repairing them first. Smile
(This becomes easier once you unlock more achievements as trader prices will improve and the gear offered is much better, there's some other bonuses as well but I'm not too knowledgeable about the system yet.)

In some cases, you can still repair said weapons and make a tiny profit - I just wish they'd have made the process easier for the player and just have the trader accept those items and pay only the difference you end up with now... Would've meant much less running back and forth, but oh well.

I just don't have the heart to toss these junk weapons away, so my stash is filling up at a decent rate, hehe.
But better this than unbalancing the economy - imo it's more fun to be completely poor and struggle for everything & make each bullet count, than be a millionaire with unlimited resources.

What's with the artifacts now - I use the detector to make them visible and all that, but I can't pick some of them up even though I'm right next to it and there's even the prompt "Use 'E' to Pick it Up".

Googled it but obviously it's all talk about previous games - some people apparently have had the same issue in Clear Sky in some underground locations and such (the artifacts I'm trying to get are in a cave NW of the barge with all the traders etc.), but I never recall this happening in CS.

Is it that brown anti-gravity thing? shoot it into the tunnel with the anomaly in it (Not those two fireball things.) and it should be sucked in and then you can pick it up afterwards. Smile
(It seems to be held in place before you do this.)

Have to say though that getting some of the rarer artifacts are a challenge. Very Happy
(Had to climb a tree for one of them and others were deep underground in tunnels or in fields of deadly anomalies.)

Yeah managed to get it now, hehe took its damn time since I had to dodge the fire poltergeist flying around.

Wish the weather would stick when you load a save - I had an blowout warning and it was raining and getting dark, couldn't really see much. So I ran to the mill and was all "Phew, dodged that one".

Then I hear "Hrrnrnhghghgrrhhh..." behind me and there's like 6 zombies right behind me AND my rifle decides to jam after 3 bullets. Awesome. Very Happy

But when I loaded my save the sun was shining instead - not nearly as immersive and no doubt I would've seen those zombies shambling about.

@BaronOfHell:

Get the translation I linked - everything but some of the dialogue (quest dialogue seems to be a priority since it's in better shape, and rightly so) is pretty much perfect already, and they're constantly updating it.

Yeah, definately get the game now and play. The translation is just fine, it's rare that I don't understand what things mean.

Oh and inz, does the translation you linked include the real weapon names mod?

Thought I'd never hear anyone say that about a Staker game. Razz

Guess I'll check out the translations then

Ladders proved to be too much for the zombies Laughing

Lured them into the building while I climbed up, then just dropped some nades for massive carnage. They did try and shoot through the roof to get to me, which was woefully ineffective, but still a very nice touch imo.

Sorry if I'm repeating here, but did anyone find a fix for the "block of shadow" that follows the player around? I had the same problem in Clear Sky and I can't recall finding any solution there.

Glad to hear the game seems to be good though.

Thanks for the suggestion. Haven't actually gotten it installed yet, haha. Figured since I had the problem in Clear Sky I'll probably get it here also.

Anyways, also found some suggestions on fixes here: http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr3&lang=en

Thanks.
